What are you currently collecting right now ?

Hello guys,
I am 28 and have been collecting since I was like 14 my uncle got me into it when he gave me a fleer Larry Bird and from there I liked how cool it was to have these cards and share them with my friends. I would stash them in a nike shoe box pretty cool for some reason it felt like money hahaha. Anyways I am a bit new to the forum and wanted to see what you guys are collecting.

I stopped collecting as life started to get busy you know college, work, family but for the past 8 months I started collecting here and there, i have usually been going to my local shop down the street. What are good cards to buy right now that could possibly be good investments ?

Would love what you guys have to share this is what I want to collect right now
-Shaquille Oneal draft picks
-Tracy Mcgrady rookie year
-Allen Iverson
-2019 Tyler Herro red white blue rookie
1994 Topps Jason Kidd
-Bary sanders still not sure which one
-Gretzky but the price is effin nuts !!
-I also want to get the Goku 1 of 1000 green holo card I forgot the name of it but only 1000 made
-I started collecting games too, I want to buy the tetris gameboy

(I also have some wwf, pokemon cars. I will share my collection later)

Hi. Welcome aboard and welcome back to collecting.

Me, currently nothing. I spent too much $$$ this year. B)
I'm a baseball RC collector, mainly vintage.

Looks like you have a clear agenda so far.
Be careful with the sole purpose of investing. IMHO , there are bubble-ish conditions in the current market

Btw, vintage has performed extremely well for me over the past 5-10 years

Always loved the Super Vet cards. The regular Topps set brought them back as inserts one year, I think 2014 if my memory is correct. Love the 83 SV’s!

I’m trying to collect every Star Co. basketball card ever made 1983-86 except the Magic Johnson and Best of the Best subsets which I view as spurious.

Hi and welcome! I collect primarily vintage; my main focus collecting is 1971 topps baseball in NM/MT condition or better; 1970-71 and tall boys basketball (NM/MT or better).
My secondary focus, mainly when the opportunity presents itself, is
    1975 raw “ NM/MT/better
    1976 raw “same as above”
    1981 raw/graded same as above.
    *All Baseball
    Happy collecting!

  • Welcome back, indeed.

    I collect mostly Kirby Puckett.

However, I resisted the urge to say "nothing, given pricing". There is a bubble, imo. I do believe that we should start another thread on this but I thought a quick post here to say that I'm not collecting anything right now as prices are 1.5-4x what I think is the long term support level for the cards I follow.

Welcome! I just returned to collecting as well, after a lengthy break.

I'm working on graded Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears in the Hall of Fame. No grade in particular, just the best eye appeal example I can afford. I also collect Bill Buckner cards (raw) and Roy Sievers cards (graded).

Occasionally I will purchase a random vintage card if its in exceptional condition. I like the artwork of the early-mid 1950's cards.

Personally I collect vintage baseball. 76 topps as per my name is my primary. As an investment I have been accumulating 80's football unopened and 2008 topps update baseball unopened. I'm extremely bullish on 2008 topps update baseball as there are two HOFers and both of those will be the cards that are used for the post hall of fame PSA rookies set. Other than that I just look for what I consider good deals.

Good luck, have fun and don't be a stranger !

    Jeff

I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.
    Collecting:
post world war II HOF rookie
76 topps gem mint 10 commons 9 stars
    Arenado purple refractors(Rockies) Red (Cardinals)
successful deals with Keevan, Grote15, 1954, mbogoman

I'm selling off most of my collection (almost all football) on eBay and just focusing on NFL rookie HOF cards. My sets are working their way up the PSA set list now.

I'm continuing to upgrade my PSA Nolan Ryan run......otherwise, I'm liquidating

I'm also a football card collector. This year I've turned the bulk of my Beckett graded cards over to PSA and focusing on NFL HOFers. I have a Modern 1970 and above RC set and then an overall HOF set. I still have 50 or so high graded cards from Beckett that will eventually be sent to PSA as well as a complete set of Jim Brown regular issue cards graded by Beckett.

I am working on a 1958 Topps baseball set. Cards I have acquired are mostly via ebay and vary from psa 5 to psa 8 graded cards. Tough set to collect with a few oddball variations to it and some key rookie cards in it as well. I am 70% completed with it and have been working on it for a few years. I think it's a real nice set and love the coloring in these cards. Other than that I look for new raw rookie cards like Justin Herbert in football who I believe will have a terrific career. These new raw cards I obtain I send out to psa for grading once I get a group of 20 or so put together. Welcome and happy collecting!

  • As my signature suggests, I'm in for the following:

    1) 1952 raw (non-high series as I'm priced out of those)
    2) 1961 PSA 8s
    3) 1978 Topps baseball autographs (I'm about 60% complete and am waiting for my Lyman Bostock to be authenticated & graded by PSA)
    4) 1954-55 Topps Hockey (I just LOVE this set!)
    5) T-202 - any. I just got my Ty Cobb graded by SCG last year (1.5). SO many people told me it was a fake.
    6) Kent Hrbek master set

Definitely LOTS of stuff to keep me busy and not bored!

    Collecting...
    1978 Topps Baseball autograph set
    1952 Topps Baseball raw

  • Working on a few projects right now. Dallas Cowboys PSA cards primarily Tony Dorsett PSA 10’s I need. On card certified autos of players past and present of my favorite teams. And lastly something I just recently started. PSA Jordan’s mostly in mint 9 condition

Social Security, one month at a time.
Wheat pennies to fill the holes in the 1909 to 1974 Whitman folders.
1987 Topps Baseball Vending box, Factory sets. Idea is to put a Factory set into a Topps binder and replace the really off cards with better examples.

I just finished my '56 Topps baseball set and have now moved on to '65 Topps baseball. I wanted a set that would span the years between 1956 and the 1973 set which was the first set I ever collected as a child. I decided on this set because it featured many of the stars that were fairly young in 1956 and were now established veterans. The 65 set also had a great rookie crop of players who were established veterans by time the 1973 set came around.

I would like to go back and find a 1930's or '40's set once I am done with this current project that will span the earlier part of this project. I am thinking one of the Play Ball sets or even the Diamond Stars set.

I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

I am leaning heavily that way! I may even start picking up a few here and there to get a jump start on that set.

Perhaps you could consider the Propagandas Montiel Set? It’s a ton of fun to chase, it is loaded to the gills with stars from baseball (and boxing) and most of the cards can be had at a pretty reasonable cost. In addition, it contains what I believe is the best single baseball checklist of any set ever produced and hits the ‘needs’ of your project by drawing on active 1930-40s stars and pulling in a few earlier players, as well.

I’m collecting a pension right now, but I also like to collect things that bring me back to my childhood days, which includes cards, toys, and pinball machines. I don’t need much to bring me joy. Just a few things and I’m very satisfied. My main room doesn’t even have my psa stuff, as psa wasn’t around when I was young. I like everything to be as I remembered it back then.

I'm mostly a combat sports (wrestling/boxing/mma) and Seattle hockey alumni collector. However, I just started dipping my toes back in the baseball card pool again picking up a few of my childhood favorites including Mookie Wilson.

    Basketball - Howard - Walker
    Wrestling - Danielson - Storm - Tajiri

Honestly, I never even gave these cards a bit of thought but after seeing your post, well this set certainly does need some consideration. How available are these cards and in what price range are we talking about for commons and stars. I guess what I am saying is what can I expect to pay for a "common" and also for an average star card?

I love the variety of players and you are right, it certainly does fit my criteria to a T.

If time isn’t a factor, the set can be pretty affordable. Focus on auctions for lesser stars and go aggressively after fairly priced stars and any decent sized lots. The ready made examples on eBay are multiples higher than what I paid BUT I’ve been at it a while since I got a lot of these; a cursory search of prices suggests many of those are very high but since many are also best offer, maybe you can come in at 1/2 or 2/3 offers with some hopes of acquiring graded copies.

But I should also mention that the Stan Musial card (a rookie, 2 seasons before the ‘48 Bowman) has started to run away from casual collectors at this point. I still think someone who enjoys the hunt would do well to make this a multi year project as the set still flies under the radar in many circles.
