The wax packs yielded a few stars including a nice Winslow and a few centered cards:
Best from wax pack 1:
Best from wax pack 2:
Had expectations from the 3rd cell of the first rack pack and after opening the 1st cell those expectations increased as almost every card was well centered. The 2nd cell dashed those expectations a little as the centering was more typical and the sequence was a little chaotic including a double card!. The sequencing held on the 3rd cell, but the Rice card was off-center and had other issue including a nasty "pimple". Many sub worthy cards here:
Stars:
Centered:
and the Rice:
Also had expectations from the 3rd cell of the second rack pack as well. The 1st cell of this pack had some sequencing issues but the rest held true throughout. Luckily, the 3rd cell this time was the "centered" cell and yielded the most centered cards including a very nice Young! Many other sub worthy cards here too including a nice Marino from the 2nd cell:
That Young is Stellar!!!! The Rice does have those two minor flaws you pointed out, but the centering is a bigger issue for me. Still, maybe a shot at 8? To me, those issues do not take away from overall eye appeal. For both, the lower right corner looks touched a tad. Are they? The Young looks like a 9 at least. If that corner is sharp, pretty good shot at Gem Mint (if the back is decent). Great cards, no matter!

The bottom of the Young has some slight chipping along the edge. Corners are decent but I don't think they are 9 worthy.
Day 8 - 4 packs of 1978 wax and 2 packs of 1979 wax
Light on scans tonight, I had every card scanned for each pack and my scanning program locked up before I could save them to disk. It only saves the ones you select once you are done scanning everything and I usually wait until I've finished scanning everything before I do that. It's never done that on me before and at that point I wasn't willing to try and figure out what cards came from what packs and re-scan everything.
There wasn't much to show anyway, so I only re-scanned the ones I set aside to put in the "good" pile!

The 75 and 77 Fouts cards are 2 of my favorite cards of all time. Love the station wagon in the background of the 77 card.
that's what I thought the wagon in the background, the stuff you see in the stadiums and background in the 60-70's intrigues me. I love seeing what's there

My original idea for this pack and a '64 I have was to get a '66 and '67 and do a run of Philly packs, but like most other vintage packs prices became "not worth it" for me. So with that idea abandoned, I opened my first '65 pack. Not a lot to show for it, but at least the gum didn't damage any of the cards! One nice team card was present however.
Love that Bears team card. One of my favorite things about this thread is seeing cards I have never scene before. As a baseball collector the vintage football (pre 1978 when I started buying packs as a kid) are largely unknown. Love the look on Ditka’s face in the front row. Good luck on the huge 12th day pack.
Well, the original pack I had planned to end this year's rip with once again I had high hopes for fulfilling my ripping Holy Grail, but once again upon opening, I was greatly disappointed. I thought what a fitting end to this year! Just like the last time I attempted this, the sequencing was almost nowhere to be found. Only one really nicely center card too!
Technically, the first (top) and last card of where the Jimmy should have been was there and two other cards in the bottom half where in sequence. I didn't see any signs that the cellophane was compromised or of newer vintage, so I can't say it was a bad pack, just not what I was hoping it to be.
After giving it some thought, I wasn't going to let this year end on such a downer.
So, I pulled out another "Holy Grail" pack that I was hoping to save for my last pack ever in a couple years and hope I didn't go 0 for 3!
Luckily, that didn't happen
This pack had perfect sequencing and fairly good centering as well, except for you know who. Although, it could have been worse. Over all a nice Jimmy was pulled, 70/30 centering, one touched corner and the slightest bit of a tilt. But more importantly, my quest to pull a Jimmy rookie was finally be fulfilled!
This was my first experience following along. I would have to rate this as an A for AWESOME! Congratulations on all the keepers, especially the Jimmy B!
Amazing Jim Brown! I know Christmas is the time of giving but I am green with envy. As always, thanks again for sharing the rips and landing the Jim Brown is well deserved.
I remember you striking out getting your Jimmy in the past. So awesome that you got to pull one! Like Craig said, you could be the last one to ever say that. Looks like a PSA 7 to me, definitely worth grading! Congrats man!
Very nice hit on the Brown, I hope it gets you a PSA7.
You had mentioned the gum stain earlier. I recall someone saying old panty hose will remove it, can anyone confirm this? I have a Marino rookie that has a long shot at being a PSA 9 but it has a gum stain.

Gum stains are not removable. Wax on the front of a card can sometimes be removed with a nylon stocking or a used dryer fabric softener sheet.
Be very careful not to scratch the surface!

Love the Buster Rhymes card! Looks absolutely great! Plus, he went to OU. LOL

I could open a hundred of those packs and never pull Rice and Young. Big congrats!

Wow nice it’s beautiful 8 ish??! You musy have jumped and heart skipped a beat!!
Congrats and thanks for sharing!!! What a great feeling you must have had when you pulled that Jim Brown.
Congrats on the Brown!
Incredible. Well done & congrats
Doubtful, but the centering does technically just meet the retirements for an 8. I would "hate" to pay $1000 to have it graded, if it is
Way to go!! My favorite football card all time!! You did it!!! Enjoy man, that is just fricken awesome!!! WOW!!!
Congrats on the Brown RC! It would great in a PSA holder!

That Brown is awesome!
Wow congrats!!! Looks like an absolute stunner! Love your Christmas threads and congrats again!!
that is amazing. I really appreciate these rips every year. i wonder if you might be the last person to ever pull a brown rookie out of a pack?

Amazing!
Awesome you are brave to open another one after the first disappointed.
