I just reached the breaking point.
I just saw the headline stating that a COVID-19 outbreak among Michigan players has caused the cancellation of the Saturday game between Ohio State and Michigan. That makes three games for the Buckeyes that were cancelled and last week's played absent HC Ryan Day and 23 players from the roster. Add to that the Big Ten starting late and Ohio State sits with a 4-0 record that really gives no indication of how good/bad the Team is or where they should be in the playoff picture.
It pains me to say as much, but the Buckeyes should probably be passed over and it isn't because the Team isn't good. Piled on top of all that's gone on in the NFL I'm aggravated as HELL. I first accepted that there wouldn't be football this year, rejoiced when I could watch by "upgrading" my cable subscription to allow NFL mania into the house and now can't seem to watch any OSU games because they keep getting cancelled. What a bummer.
Yesterday evening I went to the grocery store to pick up a few items and had a brief interaction with a guy in the Beer Aisle. He grabbed to wine boxes and presumably smiled under his mask as he said "I can't go anywhere, I might as well get drunk."

I am frustrated and upset with much of what is happening too.
I look forward to watching this game every year, this sucks.
OMG that was you?
new normal, get used to it.
I get it. The start-and-stop, game-on/game-off style of most sports seasons right now are seemingly tougher to take than a complete cancellation.
I also like the way you capitalized "Beer Aisle." Nicely done.
Keets.
What are you going to do if things end up pushing you beyond the breaking point?
Walk away from sports and devote you time, energy and attention to something else?
If so, what?
2020 has seen my interest in sports collapse. I actually am ok with this. Many other things have filled the space that sports used to occupy.
Kevin, I am currently finishing up a flooring project that I resumed after the weather here got too cold to work outside. prior to that I had contracted to have a two car garage built in September. that entailed the early-mid summer being devoted to tearing down two other garages on the property to be within code, clearing the site and muscling 20 tons of stone/recycled concrete so we could use the new garage. oh yeah, don't forget we had two new puppies that I had to "entertain" while my GF works at home.
I've kept busy!!
this is the time of year when I usually settle in, head out to the woods and watch the best of the best play NFL and NCAA football. when I get past the breaking point I think I'll just take a nap.
The B1G has decided to change the rules and let Ohio play in the conference title game.
No surprise to me. Too much moolah at stake.
i thought you were going to say you finally shaved your head
Keets.
Sounds like you have plenty going on outside of sports to keep you occupied. Good for you.
Naps are also really, really good from time to time.
I have plenty going on outside of COINS and Sports!!!
Then reach out and grab a zest for life and take up card collecting.
LOL reaching a breaking point over Ohio State!?? Please. Im at my breaking point every time I hear someone say or I read “Social Distancing”, “6 feet”, “Curbside pickup” , “The new normal” , “Unprecedented times”, “Lockdown” , “Masks required upon entry”, a jackass driving by themselves masked up, an idiot out on a bike or a run wearing a mask. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I know exactly what you're saying! I've seen tons of idiots driving alone with masks on. LMAO
Maybe they just didn't want their car to possibly catch the corona virus from them?
Ha ha ha. True. Or possibly from car to car? That could be why several of them had masks taped over their exhaust pipes!?
True story here. This weirdo at my work decided to park across the street at the warehouse rather than park right outside the 4 space lot in front of the building, he is an administrator and due to Covid he is the only guy that parks out front except one day a week when the CEO comes in, now this guy comes in before the CEO and leaves at a different time so there is almost no chance they will arrive or leave at the same time. I asked him why he is switching his spot and he told me he wants to be as safe as possible. It was absolutely baffling lol
the worse car to be around is the Toyota Corona
I asked him why he is switching his spot and he told me he wants to be as safe as possible. It was absolutely baffling
my Sister had a double lung transplant about three years ago, do you fault her for being extremely cautious?? I shrug my shoulders when I see what you described but don't know what the circumstances are of those people. they may be as healthy as a horse but live with someone who is compromised, so I tend to cut them some slack.
admittedly, wearing a mask alone in the car or outside by yourself is a little extreme. for me, to get COVID-19 could be a death sentence, so I am cautious. the boat I'm in is packed. I just had bloodwork this morning and consult with the Heart Surgeon tomorrow about scheduling my Open Heart Surgery, so yes, I'm cautious. my case has my Doctors perplexed because I have no outward symptoms but the diagnostics tell a different story, confirmed by Family History: Aortic Stenosis with an enlarged Aorta which threatens an aneurysm. my Surgeon told me if that were to happen and it ruptured that I'd be dead before I hit the ground.
all I would say is to not be too, too harsh when you judge someone's caution right now, a lot of people are really spooked. I know of several who have had it and they say it really had them scared, two friends were each on ventilators for about three weeks and a few others have died. I live about 40 miles due East of Cleveland where the outbreak is ridiculous, just this morning I heard that Cleveland is the number two City on the "Allocation List" for the vaccine.
as much as anyone I want things to be normal again, but I think we need to redefine exactly what that word means going forward.
The only thing i can quickly think of, is if there has been some stick-ups in the area with folks getting out of their car and being robbed. Maybe this guy figures if he parks in the spot for the big shots, a mugger is more likely to attack him, the mugger figuring his wallet is loaded with cash and credit cards since he's got the executive parking spot. The mugger figuring no sense robbing some average guy to steal a lousy ten bucks and maybe a debit card with hardly any spending limit on it. So the executive wants to blend in as the average guy. Just a guess.
Other than that, if the administrator thinks somehow he's being as safe as possible from the virus in that way, seems to me to be some sort of unexplainable paranoia.
I know a guy , friend of a friend in Tucson who has the rona pretty bad. It could be a karma thing though. Apparently he went to turkey dinner sick and caused about 15 cases among others as well as about 40 others having to quarantine.
After thanksgiving he got worse and went to the hospital and they sent him home with an oxy monitor and said we won't admit you unless you go below 88% and have over 103 temp.
He sat around at 89% and 102 for 4 days then hit his numbers and they sent an ambulance for him . He was so sick they then flew him to Phoenix. surprise surprise he now has pneumonia
No one has heard anything for 3 days , no news is good news possibly
So he brought misery to a bunch of people knowingly and caused massive disruption and financial distress by not staying home and then was karma slapped by some medical misfortune aka stupidity .
I mean he is in his 50's and has 1 kidney and smokes and got the rona so send him home to die I guess but then whats a medflight cost? maybe try to treat the pnuemonia before it settles in and save a half million in costs ?
Why not just give him the old yeller treatment a week ago ?
I got tested july 13th and still have no results should I keep calling once a week?
part of the problem with this is americans have acquired the mistaken belief we have worthwhile healthcare. I know I felt I should go to the hospital when I was sick but to get a bill for a few grand just to be told to rest and drink fluids seems pointless.
They should be lowering expectations like go on tv and say don't come to the hospital we will probably make you sicker. Buy lots of dollar store meds bottled water and extra food and shelter in place if you get sick , just ride it out the best you can because we have no clue what we are doing but we won't explicitly tell anyone that
My quick two cents on this and then that's it for me. This corona virus is never going away. It's an extremely small virus in size versus other viruses, and it mutates quickly. That is why they say a vaccine may only last for a few months, because it won't do much good against the mutated strains. And a vaccine may not do any good at all if multiple strains are in an area at the same time.
So frankly, in my opinion, all the vaccines, masks, being shut in, closing businesses, etc, is a total waste of time and resources for the healthy people in society. The fact is that very few people who aren't either very old or have compromised immune systems, perish from this disease.
So yes, protect the elderly and if you've got a compromised immune system then you need to stay extra cautious in various ways. If you heavily partake in overeating, poor diet, smoking, alcohol, recreational drugs, etc, then consider yourself to have a compromised immune system. Why not take this opportunity to give up those bad habits which would greatly strengthen your immune system, and if you do catch this disease, then the effects likely wouldn't be fatally harsh.
Other than that, life should be lived normally with the proper sanitation steps which should have already been in place such as hand washing, not touching your face while in public, etc.
Somehow this thread has diverted away from Ohio State football into an area where things can blow up very quickly. Time to shut it down, guys...
