Sorry for the long delay in the reveal of the Mystery Half Cent that I posted back on October 14.
I was 99% sure of what it was but, I wanted to have a couple of experts see pictures of it,
including the Guy who first discovered this New Variety, back in October of 2018.
This is only the second example known, and, although it is in poor condition, it has enough detail to easily identify.
The obverse has a 1795 head (as opposed to the 1793 and 1794) with no pole, which makes it a 1795 with a re-ground #1 Obverse.
The reverse is a Reverse D ( only used on a Cohen 6 ) which has a leaf tip just below the I in AMERICA, which makes it a 1795 Cohen 6.
It weighs in a 104.4 grains (a thick planchet) which makes it a 1795 Cohen 6b.
What makes it different is that this new Cohen 6b variety has a lettered edge. All of the others have a plain edge.
Thus it is officially a "1795 Cohen 6b lettered edge Half cent".
I have included some better photos in which you can see the RICA in AMERICA and some leaves and berries and part of the fraction on the reverse.
And of course, the all important, small style, edge lettering.
This brings me closer to completing my "1795 Half Cent Variety and sub-Variety ,on a Poor Man's Budget Collection"

Very interesting! What are the chances of something so rare unknowingly being picked for a jewelry piece?

Interesting, but more importantly, what type of device do you use to trim your finger nails, I got to get me one?
Teeth used to work pretty good for me!![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)

I love true rarity. That is a special coin
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
I have one more Rarity 8 to find to complete the set of 12 varieties and sub varieties, in 1795.
Actually I never thought i would find one of these, since only one had ever been discovered,
Just saw this in a Zoom presentation a couple of days ago. I had the pleasure of seeing the discovery coin prior to encapsulation. Congratulations on this wonderful find.
Thanks to Ed's original find I knew what to look for..![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Plus, I have literally looked at a couple hundred C6's over the years.
That and an incredible bit of luck.
