I don't see how the seller can get a defect if the package shows in possession of the USPS by the time it needs to be. Once it's in the USPS system, everything is out of the sellers hands at that point.

One clear downside as an ebay seller if a parcel gets lost for a week or enough for the customer to complain, you either have to refund them or you could get a defect which I have seen happening.
Always write in your description there will most likely be a delay due it been the holiday season and you are not responsible for that delay. Bid at your now risk based on this statement. I do that and they never complain.
Priority Mail - which has and continues to rapidly increase in price - really used to be 2 to 3 days. The expecyed delivery date used to be spot on. Its a week on average now. I mauked a Priority package less than 100 miles on Friday right from a huge hub post office. Likely won't arrive until Tues or later. Unbelievable.
I'll add that its been terrible since before the holiday shipping season
Not directly relates to the USPS. The other day we had a UPS delivery to our neighbor. The delivery came via the personal car of the UPS employee. I asked him where was the truck. He said UPS did not have enough trucks, so in some cases they are employing their drivers pers. vehicles for deliveries.

Is that Automatic? Or only if the buyer complains? I won't even ask for a refund or submit a request until over 40 days have passed, and I always indicate the shipment arrived on time, as it is out of the sellers hands once USPS has it.
Buyers can open cases after the "guaranteed delivery" time has been exceeded as happened with me recently. After that the clock is ticking and they can leave defects at will if they paid for it.

If you contact eBay they will give you an extension of time on the case, especially so right now I'd presume. Sure the buyer can still leave you poor feedback if they wanted to but hopefully they'll be understanding

For a variety of reasons the USPS has made a lot of internal changes to optimize (yeah, that's the word I'll use) it's equipment and processes.
Many of these changes have had a negative impact on service. For example our carrier is now delivering so late (we're towards the end of the route) that I have to check the mail after dinner cleanup
It's also made it much easier to visit the local PO since you no longer have to wonder if you will get the slow clerk or the fast one. It's now one size fits all.
I have had pretty dang good service the last few months to most parts of the country. Stuff sent on a Friday or Saturday over the weekend usually gets there FASTER.
Recently have received a couple packages with an SBA123456789 type of tracking # but I can't find anything on it. One sent from Tejas on a Friday was on my doorstep on Sunday.
This is the worse I've ever seen USPS delays. I've had multiple priority mail (usually 2-3 days) take almost two weeks. My buying and selling has slowed way down this year, and I usually intentionally do not sell much in December anyways. This year is extra bad it looks like.
A two week wait, from Nov. 23 to Dec. 7 without tracking, finally hits a processing center. Already refunded the buyer after he opened a case....There is hope for most recent unscanned parcels. The usps doesn't consider it officially "lost" until after 14 days. https://www.stamps.com/usps/usps-lost-package/

You guys should realize that all the shippers are getting crushed right now. If anyone wants to sell anything, it has to go e-commerce. USPS is the “shipper of last resort” for many businesses because they can’t refuse the business unlike UPS or FedEx.
Just a crazy year.
I had 4 inbound packages that were supposed to arrive today based on what the USPS tracking app said yesterday. I went to go pick them up today. Nothing. Checked my app again and all 4 said "Arriving Late." D'Oh! 'Tis the season.

Amazon has been screwing me over,,,,,, I ordered a set of speakers on October 11, 2020.
Checking the order on line it has said package is in process of shipping since the time I ordered it.
Three weeks later no shipping notice no package so I tried to cancel it but Amazon won't let me because it is "in process of shipping". A few days later Amazon cancelled the order and refunded my money in mid-November saying item was out of stock.
Two days later I got an e-mail where they re-instated the order and hit my account again for the $176.89.
The order still hasn't shipped. I have tried to cancell on-line,,,,,, won't let me. I called AMAZON 4 times and they say they can't cancel it because it "is in process of shipping"
When I asked the girl for her supervisor she wanted a name of who I wanted to talk to? I said how do I know anyone's name? She kept wanting a name so I asked for Jeff Bezos,,,, she said she was sorry but did not have his number.
The fact that they hit my credit card the 2nd time without my permission really aggravates me.
As of today the order is still "in process of shipping"
Any time you have extensive delays or problems, go on usps and open a case. I may be a nut for believing in making the system work by establishing a record of problems, but I do it when called for. You will get a call from the destination postmaster usually and they will be looking for it and hopefully shepherding it to get it to the rightful destination.

it probably, but not definitely, has moved on to parts unknown.
I have stopped selling entirely on ebay until after Christmas, I do not see the situation getting any better until mid-
Feb. 2021, the reason being that a lot of sellers on ebay may decide to do the same. If a lot of sellers wait until after Christmas to list auctions, the postal situation may remain the same for a while longer. I am getting my auctions ready and saving them for after Christmas. This means, no auctions now, but twice as many later.
For purchasing however, if I see a "must-have" coin, I will buy it anyways and just endure the wait. My policy has always been "I don't care when it gets here, just as long as it gets here".
I have ordered some electronics from China on OCT. 27, the expected delivery date is JAN. 22. This stuff used to take a week or two at the most. When I check the tracking no., it shows a red dot. This cant be good.
I will say that while FedEx isn't currently honoring their delivery guarantees at the moment, delivery times have been very good. My experience with the postal service right now has the been the same as everyone else, very irregular and frequently delayed.

Deliveries have been slower here in Northeast Ohio than usual but nothing too drastic. I've had several packages miss sent but I've received them within a couple of days.
That is the Springfield MA sort facility, it often shows that way for some reason. It's nice to see its at least moving! I have roughly 20 packages that haven't even been scanned anywhere in more than 9 days. Waiting on about 40 packages that were shipped Last Monday (the 30th) or earlier. This year has been awful for USPS delays.
I have a Priority package on its way to a forum member sent on 12/2 now on day 4 of "departed USPS Facility". I realize they are busy but this is a bit much.
I have 2 priority packages that are now at day 8 with nothing posted since the 3rd. I asked my postal clerk yesterday where they are storing all these packages. She said containers.

One thing I learned with my late package is that the Ebay tracking information doesn't necessarily agree with USPS tracking. In fact, in my case, they only agreed at the beginning.
Now missing in transit since the 29th.

That's a huge consolation as mine is going to the eastern time zone. Maybe since it left one day later it will deliver tomorrow.
I had to ship a couple Morgans yesterday. The lines are out of the building, so I just put the package in the mailbox. I've done that before and it always gets scanned in that night around 8PM. Not yesterday, and still not showing as scanned in. Luckily it's only a hundred bucks.....

One buyer got his on time. The other is still at East Coast distribution center and hasn't moved in 2 days.
Therefore I have no choice but to make tomorrow my last Priority Mail shipment day and hope all packages are delivered in time for Christmas which is 2 weeks away from tomorrow. I usually stop selling about 5 days before Christmas but not this year🙄
