My 2020 PSA Collectors Club Sub - Part Deux - (gorgeous) SCANS POSTED!!!
While these will be back sometime next year, I fired off the remaining part of the order. Seven nice cards and fond of each. I don’t have ‘high grade’ hopes for any but one - the 1965 James Bond # 19 James Bond, Secret Service Agent 007 card. These are all for the PC - low to mid grade vintage cards with nice eye appeal. Without further ado, it’s my pleasure to present the magnificent seven.
1936 Goudey Premiums “Joe” DiMaggio
1946 Propagandas Montiel #39 Martin Dihigo
1958 Holiday Inn Postcard B&W Mickey Mantle
1962 Exihibit Stat Back (Red Variation)
1963 Topps #200 Mickey Mantle
1965 James Bond # 19 James Bond, Secret Service Agent 007
1966 Topps #50 Mickey Mantle
Comments and guesses are welcomed.
That’s it, fellas.
Wish me luck.

Wow, that Dihigo is one of the nicest Montiels I’ve ever seen!

If you care to compare...
I agree that he looks pretty bright and clean among the group (#39, top right edge) but I’m also batting 1.000 with my self subbed Propagandas Montiel cards coming back in PSA 1 holders and I fully expect that to continue here. I subbed the nicest Montiel I own the last go around with my Jimmie Foxx. He’s the one in the center That looks like it is glowing (numerical order, blank spots are the 11 cards I don’t have).
Do you still have your Jimmie Foxx?

I saw that James Bond card of yours the other day and went out and bought one immediately.
Not as nice as yours, but a great card!
WOW!
I can’t think of a nicer thing to say to someone in this hobby.
It’s a great card and I’m fine with whatever number PSA assigns - as always.
But man it’s a looker, right?
Thank you very much, @JoeBanzai
For what it’s worth, the same image is in the Thunderball set on card #1.

Haha by “PC forever” I meant the Montiel Foxx is never leaving my collection. But never disappointed to talk Friars! Will be nice to see what Watson and D.Duke can do this year.

This is my first time with the ‘new’ submission format where you the barcode provided by PSA on the package.
As of this morning, the package is marked as received in the ‘Pizza Tracker’ but the Sub itself has not been entered.
This so new to me and the email provides relief as that gray area of ‘sub sent and delivered but no record of it’ has been basically eliminated.
Pretty good feeling when you get that email.
Good stuff, @PSA News

Any day now I will hear you say

And you'll be on your way
Then my wild beautiful bird, you will have flown, oh

As I looked through some bookmarked threads, I saw this one and realized I never took my guesses.
I miss them all and do I decided to apply the most current PSA standards and take my best guess at each card ahead of time.
It’ll probably be a couple more months until I hear back. So if you’re bored, tell me your guesses or your thought on mine.
It’s a pretty fun grouping of cards, I think, with great disparity in condition. With the surge in prices, I could have some upcharges if I hit my guesses (or somehow do better) which would render the vouchers unredeemed but that’s ok with me. I have other cards I could send in that case. Anyhow, cards and guesses below with additional information below the images.
Joe D is a beater with great eye appeal...the Dihigo is a really beautiful card but I’m not sure how much the text lightness will be penalized, and I’m prepared for lower...Holiday Inn has scrapbook damage, maybe fair...PSA is tough on Exhibits...the 63T has black and blue print issues (not totally uncommon) all down the right side but they’re not overly distracting and the card looked otherwise sharp to me...I tried to be really hard on the Bond card and that’s where I came in...the 66T is really a nice card though I could also see a 3 if the corners are a little too soft.

Love that Dihigo.
That guy should be well known faaar and wide given his skills and results.
Bond card looks awesome.
Thank you kindly.
I have this one, too:
The 1946 Propagandas Montiel is a mild obsession of mine; I need eleven more to complete the set. One of the best checklists of any set ever produced a great mix of talent.

This is the card I want a hit on. I subbed it hoping for 9/10. It’s gorgeous and the scans don’t really do it justice at all.
I fully realize that I need to temper expectations but the card is a real stunner. I culled together a pretty solid set but missed my window to get them graded. This is my favorite and was also top 3 in condition from the 66 card set I compiled; I purchased it off a photo for its centering only and couldn’t believe the corners once it arrived. I’m not usually luck like that. Like, never.

Did PSA finally fix the ugly mylar sleeve? This looks a million times better!! Please confirm as I have been waiting for this day for 25 years!!

So, basically these cards are too thin to safely put into a PSA holder ‘naked’ - and it seems you knew this already.
The current tact for the thin items is a thin clear plastic insert - it has some thickness to it to fill the gap. That piece of plastic is behind the card and it’s edges can be seen where the corners of a full size card would be within the holder.
It has its pluses and minuses but pluses are more important to me: the cards stay put better and the card front scans better. However, the sleeve picks up debris and the positioning of the card is pretty locked in - no more tapping to move around for better centering within the holder. You’re at the mercy of the slab technician. They’ve done mostly excellent work but this one -which I’m unbothered by - would drive some OCD collectors crazy, I think.

That would drive me nuts but it just goes to show most of the people doing these jobs don't care as much as we do...

In my experience, that 1966 Picture above is the outlier. Rest have been really well done.
Just adding for accuracy - not questioning your experience.

@jackstraw
Do you have anything in a Mylar sleeve? These are my graded PMs; a few generations of PSA and only the SGC’s are sleeved as far as I can tell.
ANYONE TAKING A GUESS ???
Based on my guesses, you should know ain’t going to be hurting my feelings.

I have a few that I wished displayed cleaner. Mostly Gretzky stickers and oversized cards. The Red Roosters come to mind that would look a lot nicer with a nice clean sleeve like you Dihigo..I want to send my Sportscater in but what's the point if I am going to get this? Looks better in a top loader..
ON ITS WAY TO NEWPORT BEACH, CA 92658
Now that I see it, I’m reminded that I have a few. I think they display fine but may not photograph well, I agree. That said, they do scan well - there’s some ‘ripple’ but it’s still easy to gauge condition and presents better than in photos, in my opinion.
I’m the type who looks at scans and holds the cards, too. I always make sure to have some scans on the phone.

My methodology for my posted grade guesses was to take the grade I honestly thought each deserved and then subtract one which I based on currently posted customer experiences seeming to be the new normal. The result was pretty solid accuracy in grade prediction; something to keep in mind. I have a lot of faith in the people of these boards and I’ve never been one unwilling to deal with reality. The reality is standards have tightened and adjustments should be made accordingly.
After seeing Mr. Turner’s most recent interview, while I agree that a large percentage of first timers cry foul due to their lack of understanding there are also a lot of people who have been submitting cards - too many - for a really long time who have seen noticeable changes to the grading scale.
I mention this to help my fellow collectors (and you dealers, too, though you guys don’t need my help) to make their own smart decisions as they cull together future submissions. Factor this in when calculating your price point type decisions: if this 7 comes back a 6 am I still coming out ahead?
Me? I’m overall happy with the grades except maybe the result of the James Bond card. Many people reached out to me on that one and thanks for the kind words; regardless, they’ll all look nicer and be better protected.
I’ll get the scans up once they’re home, hopefully late in the week.

Special thanks to @OAKESY25 and @Jayman1982 for their insight into the James Bond card. Always nice when talented collectors share their skills.
And therefore, I think it’s fair to say these are certainly the correct grades and PSA did a really nice job with the grading of this order.
I am just trying to be fair in my comments.
Order has not shipped but maybe soon.
Will post my scans here and in the June pickups…
