I just acquired this beautiful top pop (1/0) 1864 Bronze Indian cent PCGS MS67 BN for my personal collection.

Top Pop/None Finer

When I was adding it to my set which I hadn't looked at in a while, I realized that I had several different types of 1864 (including 1864-L) bronze cents in my collection. I usually only keep one of each year unless I find a neat error or variety in that year, but for 1864 I happened to find several different errors, varieties, pretty toned and even a couple in rare Doily holders.

    Awesome, as usual.
I have a POP 1, not a Top Pop, in the 1864L Indian Cent

    Nice.
I believe Snow-11 is the concentric die lines on the portrait.
Your MS-67BN and MS-66RB Colorful Toning appear to be the same die pair.

    • Obv. very high date, rim cuds visible on the MS-67BN
    • Rev. 2 die cracks - at right stem into leaves, and K7:30 to leaf tip

The 70% off center coin also has a major die rotation.

A sad story. This '64 was shipped last year, along with seven other high end coins, but the recipient later said he couldn't locate it. To avoid an ugly dispute and tarnish to my reputation I ate it and made him whole.

I'd love for it to show up. But I think it went to the dump. If it shows up some day, I own it. Please tell me!

Thanks everyone. I think due to the Civil War the coinage minted during those years had a lot of varieties and errors, though obviously they made some very high end pieces as well!

Lance, that's very sad since I know how valuable that 1864-L MS65 RD is. The sad part is who knows whether that coin is in a landfill or hidden in someone's collection. It's very frustrating when this type of thing happens, but all we can do is move on and don't let it ruin our passion for what we love doing.

So just for fun, here are a few other 1864 S-11 varieties I've handled over the years
