It's not just having era money. How would you buying or accumulating 1916-D Dimes effect all those who originally owned them but didn't because you got ahold of them? How would their lives and they're descendants live be changed?
Time travel is a tricky business. No interaction could take place for fear of a paradox. Only observation. Any paradox would wreak havoc it the future.
To be safe, you would need to be out of sync so you can observe but can't be observed. For a 1 meter distance you could observe and hear what is going on but not be seen if you were 3.33 nano seconds in the past of those being observed. Any light reflected off you would reach those being observed 3.33 ns after they had already moved forward in time. You would not be seen by anyone 1 meter or more away from your observation location.
Care must be taken to not be bumped by anyone. A bump would last longer than 3.33 ns. So no touching either.
Just getting back in time also needs to take in into account your movement. You are always moving in space. Earth's average orbital speed is about 30 kilometers per second. In other units, that's about 19 miles per second. This is just the orbit around the Sun. Then there is the Earth's rotation. And the orbit of our galaxy and the galaxy's movement in outer space.....etc. Incredibly complicated to target a particular point on the Earth for your time jaunt.
The fantasy of time travel has always been a topic of science fiction and imagination. The complexities (as outlined above) are many. However, it is believed by some in science, that it could be possible. Even the paradox theory has been discounted to some extent. Cheers, RickO
Would be easier to just buy a lotto ticket with $1 in the past since you would know the outcome. Win a few $100 million and then buy whatever coins you want.

Yeah, but what about the effects of gravity waves that did or didn't occur? You're right-it's not so simple.
Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.
Well there are quite a few older collectors who have excellent coins that they Did purchase back in the day at those prices. Personally if time travel cane along last thing I’d do in 1974 is buy a coin.....I’d spend the day with my Mom and Dad.
I bought a complete set of circulated Mercury dimes in a blue Whitman folder including a 1916-D as part of a large lot at a Marshalls sale held in the early 90s in Atlanta. I sold the entire set for $400.00 before I got to my car after the sale. Those were the days.

Same paradox as above. What about the person who back then bought that Lottery number ticket. Upheaval.
My theory is that time travel is only possible into the future, this way you can’t screw up things by changing past events. Assuming there is something a few hundred years from now, you’d be seen as the village idiot not up on current tech or events when you arrived. If you do something big in the future, your seen as a deranged lunatic and not the savior of the world ( a la go back and kill Saddam as a child). You could kill a family member, but you would just be another killer, not affecting already lived events (no grandfather paradox) No way to get rich(unless you bring current coins😉) because you’re buying stock and things at the same as everyone else with the same or less knowledge.

Would be nice to know what condition the 1916-d was in to cost $850.
Of course, you could still buy one for that price but it would be well worn.

Just make sure you bring 46 year old money with you or you'll be arrested for counterfeiting if you show up with money from the future.
1970 redbook value for UNC is $675.
$850 has to be for an uncirculated example. Maybe choice or gem.
$850 in 1974 is the equivalent of $4,489.45 today.

Oh that damn inflation...
$850 invested in the S&P 500 in 1970 (dividends reinvested) would be worth $150,000 today.
If I had a time machine and $850, why wouldn't I go to 1916 Denver and get them at face?
Or buy bitcoin on day 1. Or Microsoft stock at IPO. Or Amazon, or Tesla, or Apple...

I rather get a million items at face before a 1916 dime. It wouldn’t even be in the top 3 circulating coins from 1916 I would be looking for

I didn't mention about 2 things occupying the same place at the same time problem. You and the air you pop into.
