First year 1986 proof ASE and the latest proof ASE, certainly much sharper now than 34 years ago. Didn't get the gold but I came away with the silver and I haven't shot a coin in forever, so an excuse to post some images.

Both are beautiful coins.
I see a bit of cupping next to the rim of the 86, right?
@morgansforever.... Great pictures... I do see the difference in detail between the two coins.... However, I wonder if quality has improved or just a later die state vs. a new die state.... Just thinking out loud (in print) Cheers, RickO
The "F" in "FINE" appears to be a slightly different font.
Beautiful coins!

I have several late 80's proofs and they are all on the shallow side compared to proofs of today. Even proofs from 90 or so are much sharper than 86, at least in my observation.

@morgansforever ... Thanks for the reply.... I have not gone back and checked min (I have a run of proofs from '86 to 2009).... but I believe you, thanks for saving me the work Joking of course, I will go back and look, but I am sure your observations are correct. Cheers, RickO
I regret to say I don't know what cupping is.
