Possible mint error 1971 Washington quarter?

I found this 1971 Washington quarter as is, missing the reverse clad entirely and I'm wondering if it's a legitimate mint error or possible damage from circulation. Anyone have an idea

The reverse has been machined off. It is just a mutilated coin. No numismatic value or interest.
Why would someone do that?
Most likely a magician's coin. They are more common with half dollars.

Interesting. Thanks guys. It's just so strange. The edge is clean with no discernible machine Mark's that I can see. It's just missing the revere.
magician's coin.
someplace to hide something.
Yep, half of a magicians coin. Some are pretty good at slicing them in half. I have a 2 headed magicians Qtr. P on one side and D on the other. You should check ebay out some day on these and see what a good one looks like. Some you can barely see the seem. I bought mine just to check it out. Pretty cool.

Looks like a rectangular tarnished area in the center of the machined side. I wonder if someone lost the coin and the contents inside. The coin then went through circulation channels for a while to leave a stain on the inside. Then someone found the coin and what it was. Just saying, the coin could have been used to move media.
I’ve tested the sharpness and trueness of my lathe with quarters before making fine cuts. After the cut I mike it for trueness. Mine come out far superior to that example. It I agree. Half a hidden coin. It’s your mission to find the other half if you wish to accept it.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
Yep... magicians coin or concealment coin....lathe marks on the inside. Cheers, RickO
