Our pendulum clock and the 2014 ASE

I was winding the c.1896 family pendulum wall clock this afternoon when I noticed that a 2014 ASE was laying inside. I have no recollection of placing it in there and was quite surprised by the toning it displayed. The ASE was laying face up and the reverse side shows no sign of color even though that is the side that was in contact with the clock.

Hiding your own Easter eggs, maybe??
Not surprised by the reverse not toning....It's not the contact with the clock causing toning, but the exposure to the air/environment....hence the obverse toning.
I can see where the dust was/is on the obverse
Btw, SAEs are highly reactive to toning but, while you didn't say how long it was likely in the clock, I think that it was a bit "protected" and that retarded the toning process a bit, else it would be darker.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
What else have you hidden around the house and forgotten about?
Congratulations on the "Newp"!

It's amazing what "Father Time" can do to a coin.
With the wood and different metals, likely some lubrication present, I am not surprised at the tarnish. I would think it has not spent six years there... seems it would have tarnished more if it had. Cheers, RickO
Tannins from the wood may add some of the yellow tone. This 3cs came out of a 19th century clock and has a similar color.
