Can you just send the capsule? I thought that unless you went straight in unopened from mint you had to remove it from
The capsule and send it in to our host in a labeled flip?

Of course you can send it in the capsule. Don't remove it, you could easily damage or expose the coin to dust.
The only time you need to send a coin in unopened from the mint is when you send it in late and want them to see it was purchased in the "First Strike" zone of 30 days.
That is fantastic thank you for that info. I have not sent in my 95w because I did not want to try to take it out the mint capsule. I am guessing I can pop the capsule out of the 10th anniversary set. Thank you so much for the info

I emailed PCGS 2 days ago to see if they want the V75 coin in capsule, with all the Mint packaging opened or unopened, but have received a reply yet. Not sure what the procedure is yet.

Generally speaking, you’re unlikely to get an email response. Best to call with questions for them.

just checking - FDOI is only for dealers, right? the most an individual can get would be first strike / first release / early release?
Yes and not many coins seemed to go out the day of the ordering. Did you get lucky and get one shipped same day of the order?

I did not - mine are in flight and get here on monday
got shipping confirmation tonight for tomorrow delivery via UPS next day air. off to PCGS for grading Saturday. will need to clarify if the mint box needs to be sent unopened or they just need the capsulized coin itself to get first strike designation. unfortunately there aren't any signed coa's from the mint director like in the 2019 ERP's. that would have been a fun secondary chase for these.
my same thoughts, @ricko, but thats why I want to get it graded, so whomever I pass it on to has that taken care of - interested in the perspective of not getting it graded to pass on - is it so its more accessible for them to appreciate?
@ɹoʇɔǝlloɔ.... For me, it is the significance of the coin and having been around during that time. Family stories etc.. Grade is irrelevant, and my daughters are not coin collectors, but they all love family history and tradition. Cheers, RickO
I tried getting through to customer service this morning but there's a long line to ask a question about how to submit this v75 gold coin. maybe someone here has the definite answer. does the coin have to be submitted in the original box, unopened from the mint, or can you open the box and mail in just the encapsulated coin by itself. these will all be first strike eligible I'm assuming since the 1945 of them were released all together. trying to save time on the phone but again need your help to make sure of what's needed for grading. first time gold submission.

Second attempt at responding. Do not know what happened to the first post - it just disappeared when I edited for a typo.
It depends on when you submit the coin.
The FS cutoff for 20XE is 12/7/20.
Case #1 - You ship the coin to PCGS on, or before, the cutoff date.
Rule - TO OBTAIN THE FIRST STRIKE DESIGNATION: The package mailed to PCGS must be postmarked before or on the PCGS cutoff date for that particular coin/issue. Only the coins need to be mailed to PCGS within the first 30 days of of issue.
Case #2 - You ship the coin to PCGS after the cutoff date.
Rule - TO OBTAIN THE FIRST STRIKE DESIGNATION: Submit the coins in the original unopened shipping box from the U.S. Mint with a postmark date prior to the specified PCGS cutoff date.
So, if you plan to ship the coin to PCGS on, or before, the cutoff date of 12/7/20, you can "open the box and mail in just the encapsulated coin by itself."
MetroD....Thank you so much for this info. I will be shipping it tomorrow. Now I start sweating what grade it will get. It looks very good to my eye, no discernible problems, so I think it's worth the expense. is it too much to ask to get a 70?

I like it. wasn't sure what the label would look like. putting it through the express 1st strike that had the designation for the End of WWII v75 gold eagle. It didn't show label options. I'll look again at the submission form and see if it's the same as you pointed out. good looking out!

Nope. I plan to keep it regardless of what grade it is so why bother.
will be grading mine
Likely yes
Nah, keeping it original in the box like my other SAEs.
Yep...soon as it gets here

For those grading, will you open it and look first (within the first 30 days), even though all should be first strikes, by default?
That way you can photo document, and then just send it in the capsule? Or send the box and all and let them remove it without looking.
My US Mint Commemorative Medal Set
Not sure. May just keep on OGP.
If I grade will definitely look at them first and would just send the capsule. I'd shop registered mail as well.
Largely my thinking. I enjoy most modern coins in the OGP vs a slab.

I would keep mine as issued.... Not interested in grade or slab... This would be a keepsake for me. Pass it on to my daughters... Cheers, RickO
