It looks like the change shortage is over.

Here in the Detroit area it looks like the change shortage is over. Kroger, Wal-Mart and Meijer are back to using change.
How are things in your area?

Geeze! Head Smack!
Banks in my area are slowing getting more boxes of coins. My credit union just ordered me four boxes of quarters.

I haven't heard my bank ask for it for a few weeks come to think of it
I’ve been struggling since March to find rolls of quarters to do laundry in my apartment. Just today got three rolls of 2020-P Marsh Billings Rockefeller from the bank. Haven’t seen many 2020 quarters at all this year until now
Never an issue in rural kansas.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
Still have one bank and one kroger's asking for change, but that's all I know of here.

this past week the fed's powell mentioned the shortage and working on it. he's aware of the need of spare changet because there are people who still rely on cash for transactions.
.
Er, ah, cases are going up exponentially each week, deaths are increasing, RU in another universe?

Yes. Plenty of change to go around.
Many of the convenience stores and fast food places still have signs up asking for
correct change. When I give them the correct change in dimes, nickels and cents,
I get attitude from the cashiers. Most of the time I just round the change portion so
that I get back quarters. Love me some quarters. I'm in N.E. Tenn.
Lots of places around here have signs about the so-called shortage but none have ever done anything except give change as usual.
Theres still a shortage here.
The reality of it is probably something boring like the govt decided to pull the gold and silver out themselves while the country was cashing in grandma's change jug. Or hiding a boring metal's shortage in the name of national security.
Though I think it's more in line with the Great Reset and cashless society.
You're telling me over a quarter million people died and tens of millions lost jobs and ALL that spare change got reentered into circulation AND there's 500k fewer Americans to even need change (plus all the foreign nationals that left and ppl deported), AND no businesses are open to even need them. Gotta be kidding me. There's something else here. Idk, I see more and more people weirded out by it, but the most troublesome part is coming here hoping for answers or insight from (presumably) experts, and finding nothing but shills and blind acceptance. We are so screwed.
You guys know this is an America only problem and is happening literally NOWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD this past year.. right? Nowhere else is experiencing this to this degree, in any capacity. C'mon guys. You're smarter than this. It's Big Brain time.
Let's stick to the issue of change being available or not.
There has never been an issue with change in this area.... I usually pay in cash (small items, groceries etc.) and have received change each time. They still have 'take a cent, leave a cent' trays by the register with cents (and sometimes a nickel or dime or two) in them. Seems to be a big population area (i.e. cities) that have the issue. Cheers, RickO
Peace!
True, but I doubt it given that the pandemic is getting even worse. Yes it was out of the news this week, but it is coming back next....

This isn't the "open forum". Keep the politics out of the discussion.
Will do.
Seems anything can be construed as political these days.
As a very recenty retired front line health care worker, working from day one in emergency rooms, and ICU units (in the burgeoning epicenter ef this crisis early on) with dozens (make that thousands really) of very sick patients, I visit this forum to forget the horrors I was embroiled in and hopefully move on.
I come back to this forum, hoping to find some escape and relief in my old coin interests and instead I find that reading some comments here makes me feel like I, and thousands of other health care workers are being kicked in the teeth.
Thanks for the reminders that there is no escaping this nightmare.

Disregard feelings. Change is good.
Where is the open forum - I need to vent
The comments section to ANY news story, in ANY newspaper, or internet news site.
The internet is overflowing with cesspools of people venting.
There is no open forum here.
Our hosts kindly discourage off topic discussions as they wisely recognize that they seldom take any course of health and productivity, whereas focus on hobbies, and coin collecting may.

Surprisingly, as a roll searcher, I found that the "shortage" made more rolls and boxes of shiny new coins available from the banks (when they have rolls or boxes available). I suspect, at least in my area, that the shortage had a negative impact on older coins being recycled and re-rolled, forcing carriers (coin suppliers) to turn to federal reserve banks/branches who only supply newly minted coins. Seeing an increase in dirty old coin rolls and boxes tells me the so called shortage is seeing some relief.

When I first started there was open forum here. Anything could be talked about in there.
Disagree entirely! The OP stated current conditions of the nationwide coin shortage in Detroit area and then asked for others to post current conditions in their area NOT for updates about politics or COVID-19. Unfortunately, some people don't follow our host's forum rules of no political posts and I appreciate 291fifth reminding others of this rule. Also, I respect and accept CoinscratchFever's apology and deletion of his posts!
Here in Baltimore still seeing the signs in stores but I am fortunate enough to have one local bank that has been allowing me to swap up to 4 boxes per week to search for W quarters 😎
Opposite here in Baltimore. Since March I have searched through a minimum of 125 boxes and all but about 15 have been old coin and the the new coin boxes have only been Salt Rivers and Marsh Billings. None of the first 3 releases.🙄
Well, I didn't actually apologize but I will now. Sorry! I will learn to be more sensitive and understanding realizing that not everybody's situations are the same as mine.
Most retailers in my area are not making change, rounding down, except for Wawa. Peace Roy

I must have missed something big. No one in Central Texas is needing change. I’ve asked both of my banks if they’d accept my numerous 5 gallon buckets and both said no “it must be rolled with your name and account number”. Looks like a grandson problem to me.

Yes, it sure sounds like there is no shortage of change in your area.
Like with TP, news stories of localized shortages cause widespread hoarding, which causes actual regional shortages, which raises prices, which incentivizes increasing production and distribution, which alleviates the shortages.
Since hoarding pulled demand forwards, now there's a glut. Anyone having trouble locating TP in stores to buy? No, not anymore.
There's plenty to go around.

In central MD the coin shortage is coming to an end. I still get can’t get many quarters though and my bank never has uncirculated quarters. I have found no 2020 W, and I have found (Philadelphia) bats, salt river bay, and Rockefeller, but no weir farms.
Apologies accepted, if they were directed my way that is.
I might be just a tad sensitive to the underlying causes of the coin shortages- which very sadly have bridged from a matter of public health into the political realm. That is where things might easily have gotten off track.
I can’t speak for our host, but from my perspective, It’s fine to discuss the actual coin shortage and the regional status relative to that. The state and mechanisms of the shortage is fair game.
Forgive me if this was all discussed at length months ago, but reflecting back at the causes,
much of the problem was the result of numerous banks physically closing, severely limiting availability to retailers- at least the ones that were open.
The way it stands now? I bet a lot of people don’t even want to handle coins, given the possibilities of their being yet another possible vector for infection.
If someone wants to discuss whether or not the public health crisis which lead to the coin shortages is real, fabricated, or, they would like to discuss clinical details relating to it- those are discussions to be held elsewhere. IMO
Just my 2 cents.
Thank you

Don't forget that closed bank lobbies prevented normal returns to those banks that have counting machines.
There was never an overall shortage, just a logistics and supply problem.
This never happened under Obama. He fulfilled his his promise of Hope and Change. Well at least the Change part.
Please, no more political comments. This thread is about change availability and only change availability.
And like I said earlier there is always someone 🙄🤫
I can pick up a roll or two now and then.
No boxes yet.
I frequent numerous banks here in the Houston area and the results depending on which bank are definitely starting to ease up.
Wells Fargo and BBVA are still very strict with a 2 roll limit while Chase, Amegy, and several others are more than willing to sell a box or two, now.
Yes @nwcoast and anyone else I may have offended.
Thanks,
Chris
