Is it worth having modern coins graded?

Hey guys today my 1oz 2020 Gold American Eagle arrived and I’m wondering if it’s worth sending to PCGS or NGC for grading?

I ordered the “Mint Direct” version from APMEX which guarantees it’s not touched and is sealed straight from the Monster Box in a climate controlled vault so it should grade as MS-69 or MS-70.

But is there any sort of premium or good reason to have it graded?

Thanks!

Beautiful coin. Grading would only be a small percentage of what you have already invested, but unless you’re selling it, I don’t see the point.

How much of a premium was added to the cost for this mint direct feature? Peace Roy

The Mint Direct was $10 more than the normal BU 2020 Gold Eagles.

My opinion, based on thoughts in my head and not any kind of experience, is that you’re good with the holder it’s in. It’s a bullion piece, but maybe people are paying even more premium for graded ones and I don’t know it, though.
    It’s a good looking piece.

From what I’ve seen there’s a nice premium on them if they’re PR70 or MS70 but that premium decreases substantially if they are graded MS69 or below.

Even if you do plan to sell it, I don’t think the cost of grading and postage would be recouped.

I don't think any modern coins are worth being graded. The only ones possibly worth it may be the 2009 UHR.

I have seen coin dealers pay the same price for certified MS70 gold, as they pay for raw gold. My dealer says it’s all bullion to him. So, unless you are going to sell it to another collector who will pay a premium, I would keep it raw. I would leave it in the APMEX holder that you already have it in, to protect it from dings or other damage.

if you want graded bullion, buy it that way.

once bullion is bought raw, just keep it that way.

I would say keep it as is.... Yes, it is a nice gold coin... but the price of gold eclipses any numismatic value of bullion at this time. Plus, bullion is likely to go higher. No sense in investing more in that coin. Cheers, RickO

Just leave it as it is. It looks good in the present holder and will sell well if you should want to do so. It is a bullion piece.

I'm certifying 12 1 ounce AGE at PCGS. I prescreened all these for possible MS70 grade. @Gam3rBlake your coin looks a fantastic shot at PCGS MS70 from the images. Will be easier to sell if gold hits $5,000. PCGS's newest features way lay the naysayers. PCGS MS70 seals the deal at max money
My name is TPGS, so I do love to certify raw, cross and crack out.
