Larry Miller collection : Silver Dollars

Some of the Larry Miller silver dollars are the highest graded scarcest Morgan silver dollars
Though I am not a collector of Morgan Dollars
I felt the grades were stretched . The 1884 s in ms 68 was a very nice coin . I have not seen a better one but 68 was a stretch . The 1896 s graded ms 69 was also a stretch Nice coin but ms 69 ?
My favorite Morgan was the 1893 o . Very
Conservatively graded and worthy of a higher grade .
The nice thing about the Miller collection auction is that none of the coins were submitted for upgrades. Unlike the Simpson coins .

Where can you see these?
Right here....
I’ll be bidding on one of his coins in that auction in a lower denomination than his dollars.
My collecting “Pride & Joy” is my PCGS Registry Dansco 7070 Set:

If you don't have this catalog already, I'd be happy to send it your way. Way, way out of my league.
Tim
My favorite is the 86-O.
The 96-S is spectacular, but should probably only be graded 68. Then again, it hardly matters. Whatever it’s graded, the coin is in a class of its own.
Doggedly collecting coins of the Central American Republic.

In addition to the high grade silver dollars, I noticed several very high grade red book keys:
The bids for the above are over $10k already,
but the very high grade Morgans are above $100k.
@pointfivezero , thanks so VERY much for your offer, but I have one.

Truly spectacular coins (96S, 86O) and will command some notable premiums. Cheers, RickO
Wow that is a superb collection. Certainly nice eye candy for those of us that can only afford to look. Thanks for the link - @yosclimber
Wow. You’re right. That coin is spectacular.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
Like the 86-O due to it's connection to my home town.
I wondered where these wonder coins from the PCGS World Tour of Morgan Dollars (back in 1990-91) ended up.
I didn't know it was in the Larry Miller collection but it's definitely neat to see the coins resurface.
@DLHansen has the 1892 POP 1/0 PCGS PR68DCAM. I wonder if he'll pick up the 1892-S POP 1/0 PCGS MS68 to go with it.
Dbldie55 enlighten us. Where was the 86-O $1 found? I remember reading Dean Tavenner's article on it and the cameo DMPL 92-O $1 (unheard of attribute for the date) back in the '90's. He was reminiscing about a Salt Lake City coin show in 1976.
And, no, the 86-O was not found in SLC. That's where Dean purchased it and the 92-O from dealer Jim Been.
Correction, it was Jim BEEM (Boise, ID) ,not Been.
The 1886-O was part of the Wayne Miller collection. The catalog does not state where it was found. He is a dealer in my home town, and worked for my grandfather as a teenager.
I know Wayne but I haven't seen him since 2002. I bought the first edition of his "An Analysis of Morgan & Peace Dollars" when it first came out in the spring of 1977. Also bought the second edition in 1982. The books really spurred my interest and study of the two series.
BTW, Wayne bought the 86-O from Dean Tavenner not long after the SLC show.
Big money prices realized for a number of top-pop coins. The 86-O in P67 DMPL brought the most at $780,000(!). Check out StacksBowers auction prices realized to other big money prices.
The 1896-O PCGS MS66 Morgan brought $528,000!!! It's a pop 2 coin. I don't believe this is the same coin that was in the PCGS World Tour of Morgan Dollars back in 1990-91. That coin was also MS66 but was cleaner on the cheek, yet flatly struck over the ear and on the eagle's breast, if I recall properly.
Anyone want to comment on this date from memory?
I saw the prices realized and they seemed very strong (i do not collect morgan dollars so i am believing what i read). Legend had a good market report about the sale and how you get a good return holding for 10 years plus. Any idea what the return was on these coins?
