Can you identify where a (worn) coin was minted with no visible mint mark (1916) dime

I found at a coin star machine (yes a coin star) a clear 1916 Mercury dime - The holy grail!!
See pictures, the coin is worn, the date is visible but clearly no mint mark. If a 1916 D, a major rare find indeed.
Question, can someone like our beloved host identify a coin mint location other than the mint mark itself?
I also ask because, I found this coin in California, where we get coins mostly from Denver.
Any thoughts, or good find Joe but no Grail... Thank Joe

Did the Denver mint use a collar with a different number of reeds than the other mints used that year?

No clue - One other bit of info: I put this coin under a high power (Zeiss, I work for them) imager and we could not pick-up any image
Regarding your coin, that's a P. The D was punched far enough from the rim to still be visible in that grade.
Regarding ultra-low grade 1916-D dimes, our hosts have graded 637 in FR2 and 6 in PO1, and the D is visible, although not full, on a PO1.

Thank you, I pretty much thoughts so but I thought I would double check - It was an exciting find to say the least...
here is said 1916-D in PO-01 from PCGS photograde
@MsMorrisine, Thanks for the image, do you know what that coin is valued at?
no idea.
Well, my coin would have graded higher, if's and but's....
16D PO-01 ... 275 in PCGS price guide ... u can also look at various auction results

I was actually looking on one that DLRC had sold last year for $481. It's a different coin, but still a PO1. The D shows more fully than the 6.

...Like the song, so close and yet so far... One day the Coin Star machine will deliver...
A silver Merc is always a nice find.... and so close to a BIG find being a 1916..... No grail this time Joe... Good luck on future finds... Cheers, RickO
Getting one of those would have woke me up too.
But yes, it's a Philly.

The coinstar machine just gave you free 104 year old silver. I'd say it did deliver...
Even without the D mintmark, that's a very cool find.

Thank everyone, I appreciate the feedback and comments.
To be honest, I found it on the floor in front of the Coin Star, not actually in the return...
just a side-note to this interesting merc find. that is one MEATY p-1...
thanks for posting the pix.

Joe_360, Doubt that it will reveal a "D" mintmark, but will Zeiss allow you to put the specimen under their scanning electron microscope?
I was in the lab. The microscope was in no danger , so yes
Oh, sorry, it was not a SEM, it was a high end desk top
Cool.
Great find! I've never seen one coin in the reject slot at my local Walmart Coin Star.
Keep looking, and see my other post - I call it fishing, sometime you don't get a bite and something your pull them in. You just have to keep trying. I have a few close to my house which helps.
Hint, look on Fridays and Monday / Holiday when people want money quick... Grocery stores
Agreed.
Too much left for a PO01.
