99 Genuine - PVC

Hi, I sent a coin to PCGS for grading and on the app it says it is 99 Genuine PVC. It’s on the reverse. If I send the coin to them(after I get it back) for restoration, are they able to remove it and then slab the coin with a grade? It’s a very rare coin and in good condition other than the PVC..
Is there a possibility that when they restore the coin it would come back details, cleaned?
How easy is it for them to remove the coin from the holder to do the process again? I’m scared about sending this coin again because of what could possibly go wrong, it’s the most rare/expensive coin I own so it kind of scares me thinking it might get lost or scratched etc.. thanks

I haven’t received the coin back yet and I don’t know if it’ll get trueview pics because it being genuine. If they give trueview pics I’ll post it
Call Customer Service on their 800 number asap. They've handled 10's of millions of coins, don't worry about their process, it works.

Why do you say I should call them ASAP?
I’ve already called and put my number into the system. No callers ahead of me. I’m going to ask if they can keep the coin there and restore it and I’ll pay the fees with the CC on file.. hope they say yes..
And that is why he said to call them ASAP, if you can catch it before it ships they should be able to try conservation for you. My guess is your chances of it coming back labeled "Environmental Damage" is probably better than it coming back in labeled as "Cleaned."
why would anyone offer to conserve a coin then call it cleaned?
If it has PVC goo or haze on it that hides hairlines from cleaning, the cleaning might not be apparent until after the PVC is removed. There's no guarantee that conservation will result in a gradable coin.

I just got a call back from them and said I wanted to do a restoration. The lady on the phone is going to email me a PDF to fill out. She said the fee is 25-150$ depending if I do a walkthrough or regular + 3% of the coin value. I forgot to ask her a question so I called back again(have to wait about an hour for a callback). If it comes back restored 3% is going to be hefty if the coin comes back as a high grade..
Much will depend on the level of damage done by the PVC.... I hope it works out well for you.... Dicey situation, especially for a coin of value. Good luck, let us know what happens. Cheers, RickO

My guess is it will arrive back in a flip with a sticker indicating 99-PVC.
Without knowing anything else about the coin, I would immediately send it back to PCGS and use their restoration service.
My experience with their conservation methods has been excellent.
Include all paperwork & packaging that they sent you so they have reason to suspect it is the same coin.

From my understanding if PCGS says the coin can’t be restored I owe 35$ +10 evaluation fee.
Does anyone know if they restore the coin and it has “environmental damage” or something else other than a regular grade if I still owe the 3%? I’m going to call pcgs tomorrow to ask this question. I was just wondering if anyone already knew the answer. It would be pretty upsetting if the coin doesn’t get a grade yet I owe all that money for the restoration. Thanks
The flip side of that is that you'll have a high grade coin worth much more than it was before restoration.

I agree with you messydesk. I’m just scared of it not being able to be graded and then I have to pay for it. I’m not complaining about having to pay for their work, I just want something I can show for it.
