Differences Between Proof & Prooflike Coins
We had a request to cover how to distinguish Proof coins from Prooflike, and had a new article go up today exploring that subject. Also, if you'd like some bonus entries to our next giveaway be sure to participate in our Guess the Grade on our Instagram page we've had many very close guesses so far but none that are 100% yet.
Distinguishing between Proof and Prooflike coins may seem a little more challenging than one might think at first. After all, both Proof and Prooflike coins seem similar in appearance, as both types of coins usually feature a degree of surface reflectivity, some pieces more than others. And, sometimes, it may seem that certain Prooflike coins offer more brilliance than coins designated as Proofs.

Thanks for another informative article authored by Joshua. For anyone wanting to learn more about the "Master Coins" historical reference a case in point is the 1850 "Master Coin" discussed on a prior thread to which I will attempt to add a link.
OK, here is the promised link. The thread was originated by numismatic author Roger Burdette and he begins by stating, "Yes, there was at least one (1) double eagle proof ("Master Coin") made along with the rest of a set of 1850 gold."
While most proofs today are made when a new coin is first minted, it was of interest to learn that the proof ("Master Coin") subject of Roger's research was minted many months later.
