Taylor restrike R64 halfpenny. Not known to Peck as it was one of the coins in the Murdoch collection sold at Sotheby's rooms 15-19th March 1904, lot 227 where purchased by Evan Roberts, a watch and clock repairer (whose collection of timepieces is now in the V&A). The lots purchased by Roberts stayed in the family until the Weyl patterns were sold at Glendining on 15th Dec. 1993, and the gold was sold at Plymouth Auctions on 18th April 2008, at which point it was possible to identify all the gold patterns from the Murdoch sale for the first time and assign lot numbers. This was lot 16 in the Plymouth sale.
And another gold pattern from the same sale in 2008. An 1860 Weyl pattern obverse uniface penny, this being ex- J G Murdoch 538 part, Evan Roberts and Plymouth Auction Rooms, 18/4/2008 lot 37. For further reading on the Weyl patterns, please refer to the article in the 2011 BNJ (vol.81), p.181-202.
