advice for missing package to ngc?

ɹoʇɔǝlloɔɹoʇɔǝlloɔ Posts: 1,436 ✭✭✭✭✭

shipped a coin in priority shipper late september to ngc - ngc has not received package yet, and of course ive misplaced the receipt w my tracking number >.<

I've filed a missing package report with usps, as I had tons of contextual info [shipper/receiver address, date/location of ship, insurance value, etc], but concerned that - if package was intercepted - someone might pawn or grade the coin themselves

luckily[?] it was a numbered mintage coin and I have photos - is there a service I could use that would alert pawn shops / ngc that if they receive #872 [for example] of this coin, that its stolen?

I know probably wishful thinking, but devastated as I orig purchased coin for $200, had started trading at $700 on secondary market almost immediately upon selling out from mint, then recently noticed pf70 specimens were selling consistently for over $10k, which is why I was sending it in, hoping for that perfect grade

any help / advice [outside of 'don't ever lose your usps receipt] appreciated ✌

Honestly just hope for the best. look for the receipt. Try going to the post office to see if they can pull it up for you.

keep looking for that receipt. I hope it was insured, but without that receipt you're in for a loss.

If you know what day / approximate time you mailed it, and have a good relationship with a clerk at your PO, you can have them find that tracking number.

hi all - thank you for the well wishes

I got a call from a super friendly postal worker from sarasota, who told me the following [might be helpful if you run into this going forward]:

as I knew the date, approx time, amt charged [yes, thank god, I had it insured], and it was shipped in the last 30 days, I could request a RECALL TRANSACTION at the postal office i shipped from; for my receipt to be pulled

they were not only able to get me a copy of my receipt w tracking #, but provided a proof of receipt [signature] on the ngc side on pickup from po box

calling ngc, with all this info, they STILL have no idea where it is - they said they'd get in touch by end today 😑

Had you shipped it to our hosts you'd have gotten your grades back AND have had 'em beaned by now :D

When I mail a valuable package, I try to snap a quick cell phone photo of the receipt. Hard to lose that way. You never know.

receipts are only helpful if you have them.

Use registered to known hot spots ( destination that is know to receive valuable packages)

Why is that any different than mail FROM known hot spots (e.g. Anaheim CA the hub for both Stacks and PCGS)?
    They generally don't use Registered.

Private insurance. Everything from NGC comes back Registered.

My guess is your package is sitting on the NGC receiving dock. I sent them a submission recently. I tracked the package and discovered it was delivered on 9/17. When it did not show received on their website by 9/22, I contacted their customer service department and was told they were backlogged and processing deliveries from 9/11.

My submission was finally updated on their website with a "receiving date" of 9/29. It has now been at their site for a month and is still in Scheduled for Grading status. This was an Economy submission so I am (trying) being patient.

Happy to hear you got your 'receipt' information and tracked it to the destination. I am sure it will turn up there when they get to searching. Good luck, let us know what grade you get. Cheers, RickO

mine was delivered on oct 1, after this kerfuffle, they magically located it and it's now marked as received in my profile as of oct 16 ... 🙄 ... oi --- when I spoke w a rep earlier in the day, they mentioned they were working through submissions from oct 12, so it def wasn't a matter of backlog, as one might expect with covid

still waiting to hear back on how this even happened - maybe Monday...

pf70 uc 🎉 best way for this chaos to end [he says before he has graded coin in hand...😒]

    orig price: ~$200
market price after sellout: $700 consistently
pf70uc going for recently: $5k–10k+ [116 top pop]

def sending registered next time, and hopefully engage w our hosts to check out their services ✌

really appreciate all the help from this community
