Do you think these may be dealer returns? They open, look for PR70 and send back 69 or less?

Maybe, that is possible, but I thought the mint tightened up their return policy.

Could this 20EM release be labeled as Mint Error?

Maybe we need to have mint invoice showing it was purchased after the first 200,000 coins sold.

    :)

And some of them will probably end up in the limited edition proofs.

If you need one let me know! I bought a few

However for the money I spent you would think the packaging would be a bit more secure.

    Who does their shipping?

I would think so... I think you would be lucky to get a PR69 from these most will be 68 or less. I heard a couple of dealers stating that the grading results haven't been good.

Maybe I'm missing something but why would you send in coins that you haven't inspected? They are FS eligible until the 12th of November

I thought the cutoff for opened packages was earlier than that but if you sent it in in ogp unopened it would qualify for FS/FDOI. Either way, did the math and it is less expensive for me to buy a PF 70 then go through the submittal process so I bought a 70 and will just have an extra. I have a 95w that I am going to send in but not until the usps volume is lowered.

FDOI is a dealer thing....no advantage to send in an unopened box for Joe Normal...and correct about just buying a 70

I had 3 come in yesterday and I wanted to check production/sales....I noticed that they were also sold in lots of 40. Hmmm I wonder what kind of discount they were sold at.

dealers get discounts to retail pricing shown on the site. it is a sliding scale discount based upon dollar volume previously done.

The Mint doesn’t allow discounts on ANY product with a published mintage limit. The 2020 S American Silver Eagle Proof is not eligible for a discount. A bulk pack of 40 sells for $2,920.00...

What the heck! How can they do that after the fact? I thought Congress had to approve each coin and mintage limit😤

Well....my order that will arrive soon will be going back. This was probably leaked to dealers and explains the availability every morning...
...also makes me question ANY mintage limits announced....like the Nov 5th WW2 silver and gold....sells well? Just mint more....

  • WQuarterFreddieWQuarterFreddie Posts: 3,015 ✭✭✭✭✭

Ironically, the day after they change the mintage limit it is unavailable. Also, I read a 10/9 Coin World article on how the Mint isn't offering the 3rd W nickel and have the lowest production of 2020 Uncirculated sets since 1959 in November due to COVID-19 but they can produce more of these?🙄

  • TurtleCatTurtleCat Posts: 4,628 ✭✭✭✭✭

My guess is they would say the 200K mintage limit was a typo to start with and it probably was. I wonder if the mint set will turn out to be a halfway decent buy instead of a terrible buy this year?

there was an issue that the mint accidentally oversold. I think i remember that they overproduce to account for unsaleable returns. some of those extras got sold

product limit is toast -- yet is still 200,000 -- on this as it was passed with the 40 trays sold to bulk.

I posted the screen capture from before they did the bait and switch. Attempting to create the perception of rarity and then sticking it to those that bought.

So they call it a product "drop"? Like bread crumbs for the common folk, I guess.

Well at least they aren't overcharging their customer base. /sarc off :/

perhaps you can get their attention with one issue and include the product limit & mintage limit issues in there.

you might get their attention with this obvious issue:

The Mint still has this posted under their "info banner" Interestingly enough, the info also states that phone orders (due to Covid) are no longer accepted, just online orders. Time to hang up the phone.

Somewhere around there. The explanation makes sense to me as I figured there was a typo or issue in the original listing. It’s a subtle difference and the data entry person may not have realized the implications of a typo.
