The frost is amazing and it's certainly an original gem. Strike is average/typical. I just can't get past the terminal rim toning. I accept some rim toning, especially in those old fatties. Those paper labels certainly caused a chemical reaction, because I've seen it time and time again, but this one is just too dark for my taste. Otherwise, I love the coin and it is a very important key date---2nd in Rarity only to the 1934 s for the intermediate set. Both are very tough San Francisco issues to find in mint state. They are only getting tougher as the years roll on by.

I agree on the toning. This is a coin that should be sent in for professional conservation and a new holder.
Toning was prior to certification. I hope. Any history of submission? Tough date. Weak San Fran strike. S.F was so much better in the 1800's. The look of a 81S Dollar.

Hmmm, 64 or 65. The fields and lustre are excellent with only a bit of marking on high points . I'll go 65.
Well, just Love coins, period.

NGC MS65. While the luster, fields, and devices (considering it's a 35-s) are gem-worthy IMHO, the terminal toning would limit to 64 for me.

Give that coin an acetone soak and get the crud off......It will not harm the rest of the coin... Come back later. Cheers, RickO
67! (large photos exaggerate tics on leg/shirt). Luster is blooming!
Is it for sale? LOL

66, but that terminal toning makes me want to say less.

I see no limitations except the darkly toned areas. Needs to be assessed for restoration IMO at PCGS.

MS65, though the toning makes it a tad hard to grade

The strike is poor...

I wouldn’t be surprised if it toned like that in the holder as it is a no line fatty.
Strike is weak but that’s generally representative of a 35-S. (And Denver & philly - a 1930s anomaly)
