Sold a fairly expensive coin - Insurance question - Coins are not covered?

Was about to pay 17.60 for shipping and insurance for a coin. I read this directly off the Ebay page.... So insurance doesn't cover coins???? Section II; Letter A is of interest

I have noticed similar wording on a standard Homeowners/Renters policy. Coins have a small coverage limit around $200 or $300. Not sure why there is often a low limit or they are excluded entirely.

You want to change from the default(Ebay insurance) to USPS insurance. It's usually a little cheaper than ebay's insurance.

If coin is of value less than $800 buy your usps label and insurance through paypal.

If coin is of value greater than $800 or if it is a bullion coin that you wish to ensure it is cheaper to ship usps registered first class and it has to be purchased at the usps counter. Usps will only pay claims of full insurance on bullion items if sent registered mail.

coins are what you get for change, you are selling collectible numismatic items, ay least that is what I see on customs forms from items overseas.

    https://www.pirateship.com.

Best shipping site I have ever used and it is not even close. Their third party insurance will cover collectable coins and it is way cheaper than USPS.

What is the maximum USPS insurance will cover on coins? I'm not finding it.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I am not sure about coin specific, but it is $5,000 on priority and $50,000 on registered.

I use insurepost.com, cost is $1.05 per $100.00, collectible coins are covered. I think the limit is $1000.00. Great for the occasional shipment. For higher limits shipsurance.com covers higher limits but you need to sign a monthly contract.

In the business. Easy pickings by thieves, a target. Cash has a very low limit. Policies typically have very low limits on silverware, jewelry, watches, furs and guns as well for the same reason. There are limits on other things such as tools used in business as well and depends on the company and where you live. These limits can generally be increased by endorsement. I urge everyone to contact their agent to find out what their limits are, if they have any serious money in any of these, or provide additional protection (another reason for a gun safe). Best advice: read your policy. Lots of legalese but the various limits are listed clearly.

I rely on shipandinsure.com - it's well worth the money to not stand in line at the USPS!

I you're an active shipper, I recommend getting a policy through Hugh Woods (ANA member program). They have collector and dealer policies where you can add shipping coverage too...

We really ought to have a sticky thread about this. There are shipping, insurance, packaging, and protocol questions that come up all the time.
