    Great photos! :)

A fun and educational coin! ;)

If it is incuse and overlaps the rim it would indicate PMD. Hard to say exactly how it happened.

Reminds me of that Morgan that caused the big stir a few months ago.

Well it is incuse but doesn’t overlaps the rim. That’s the weird part ...
    I’ll scope again tomorrow

It kinda looks like there may be some overlap but the coin may look different in hand.

I understand, I thought it appears on the rim.

    again a few pics

it seems touching the rim but there is nothing on it.
and I have the feeling that for the example the A from STATES was troke on it....

    This photo shows it best.
Anything above the black line is post mint damage on the rim.
Thanks for the great photos so we can help you the best! ;)

I'm not sure I agree with this comment. If it is indeed in the die, wouldn't that infer there is a void in the die in that area, so that upon striking metal would not be forced up to fill out the rim in that area?

It certainly appears to be PMD.... that being said, I have no idea what caused it - and have not seen similar damage. Cheers, RickO

And what I don't understand is if it is a PMD, it would affect the A from STATES. here there is no trace at all.
As if the A was stroke on this incuse form...

I understand your desire to learn but unless you were standing there watching when the damage happened you may never understand it. You can spend all the time you want but you would be best off to save it as a reference piece and move on to another coin. ;)
