Last month I sent in 10 Ike Dollars for attribution, reholder and TrueView services. I had two 1971-D Ikes that were unattributed FEVs (Type 1 Reverse -FS-901) in PCGS MS65 holders. I wanted all of them reholdered in Gold Shield slabs with TrueViews. Phil and the team did a fantastic job bringing out all the colors. They turned out just as I had hoped. One in particular is a MONSTER. Enjoy the Ike show!

These Ikes were already graded. I sent them all back in for reholdering in Gold Shield holders, which include the TrueViews. The two 1971-D Ikes were in unattributed PCGS MS65 slabs. I only paid $17 and $25 for them, so they are the winners. However, the premium toning on most of the others have raised their bar enough to justify the reholdering, IMO. But, I’m not planning to sell these. They will stay in the “Other Ikes” collection. I do have more I’m going to send in for reholdering as well.
But, to answer your question more specifically, I would expect the 1972-D to be at least MS65 based on the photo, but the graders are the ones who have it raw in hand. Also, that first FEV looks like a 66, but I believe the weak strike from a worn die is really holding it back. Again, just my opinion.

"I like Ike", great President, his like is immortalized on coins, his like has hardly been seen since, I always found the local club's Ikes worth bidding on and buying. Tough to find mark free and high end examples.
Really nice coins! The 1972-D is my favorite - the combination of toning and planchet striations on the obverse is very appealing.

How can you possibly see strike and detail through that hideous toning.
