Guess what was Dug Up ! More Coin than Digging

This bust half was dug in Vermont near an old foundation. It is made of copper. I was hoping that it could have been a tria

l strike. Take a look guys hoping that you can add some insight. Fake 1830 bust half dollar made out of copper faked in 1830, REALLY ! Took a while to list it but any comments would be great. Could this be the missing copper half of only 2 existing (I hope) ..

Looks like a contemporary counterfeit. Keith Davignon wrote a book detailing the die marriages of these.

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Copper or just environmental damage from its very long burial?

It is a neat find. Thanks for the info . I guess I can keep my day job. I was thinking it was made around the 1830s.. Does anyone have a date on this fake as to when it was made ?

Nice find! Could be a token. Similar to the 1837 token listed in the Red Book.

Get the weight and also have the metal checked, perhaps by a jeweler or someone with access to metal analysis equipment. Check the dimensions also. Until we know more, we are just guessing. Cheers, RickO
