How does a seller report a suspicious buyer on ebay?

oih82w8oih82w8 Posts: 12,599 ✭✭✭✭✭

I listed a couple of items yesterday, and I received a suspicious offer requesting payment instructions;

Message

Hello seller, I am interested for purchasing your item on eBay now. Kindly text me on my cell to proceed with the payment.(720) XXXX-XXXX.

Buyer

abcde-1234 (0)

The "buyer" sent an offer of .99 less than my BIN price with above message, note the zero feedback and an ebay join date of Mar 2020. Buyer name changed.

While buyers can use a form to report sellers who offer to sell off of ebay there is no form for sellers to report buyers for the same offense. You could try using the Report an issue with a seller form making it clear in the "details" section that you are reporting a potential buyer.

Since bidder has (0) feedback, fairly obvious that it is a scam. Do not reply to his phone with a text. If you feel the need to communicate with him do it thru ebay messages only. If the account is hijacked an ebay message from you might possibly warn the original account holder.

Don't reply, add to your blocked bidder list & move on.
It's not worth your time or effort, they will just open another scam account. ;)

What @ifthevamzarockin said really is the best thing you can do. IMO.

Someone fell for his/her line, the buyer now has (1) feedback.

Blocking sounds like the best thing to do.

If you want to pursue, I would give ebay CS a call instead of trying to navigate their forms. Otherwise just ignore and block.

Ninety nine cents under your asking price sounds great !
I think you missed out on a great sale ! ;)

Oh come on, you could have had some fun. Text back, "Sure, no problem ... I only take eBay F&F, and after 10 days if there are no problems I'll ship." :D

Oh yeah ... they'd probably report you and you'd get banned. :s

I'd probably just ignore it. eBay monitors messages for phone numbers and email addresses in an attempt to prevent users from consummating transactions directly. It's not really your job to help in that effort, unless you like working for free.

May be a scam.... or may not. Whichever, whenever a buyers behavior is on a different path than normally seen on ebay, usually results in trouble IMO. I would just ignore and not even reply.

Only valid reason to attempt to deal with an ebay seller off of ebay is to get a much better price. An offer of .99 less than price tells me there is more to the attempted communication.

Seller should just have accepted the "sent" offer and awaited paypal payment. After non-payment a neg to the buyer would effectively shut him down with that ebay account.
