OK... pictures are dark and a tad blurry... Is it a gold nugget? Not used to seeing one so black....try rinsing it off....If it does not rinse, then likely something else...gold does not tarnish. Cheers, RickO
I thought the same but seen some black ones on other forums and was told collectors like the tarnish and not to clean it. WHEN I TOOK IT TO BE TESTED THEY TRIED TO GIVE ME $60 LOL😅
What is the weight and widest diameter? We appreciate close up, sharp images to examine. Might it be a gold cap from a tooth? What do you think it is? Peace Roy
That looks better... Not sure what the substance coating it is... Gold does not tarnish - so some residue was on the surface...looks like some still is...Was it checked on a Sigma machine? Cheers, RickO
I had my doubts my doubts too and it's been checked twice and a third on Tuesday next week. This is a gold plated cuff links I found maybe better comparison.
Still waiting for the jeweler to test it. I used a cheap National Geographic detector. My understanding Gold or metals of value could show up as trash. So I dug on all signal there was something.
The anticipation is building....Like that old ad of a woman waiting to get into a sale....(Open, open, open)....Test it, test it, test it.... Cheers, RickO

What is it?
It's ugly but it's gold
I talked to a jeweler here local and he said clean it. How it would happen to be in the middle of nowhere he believes it is smelted gold.

It is strange and weighs 8.6 grams. It appears to be smelted piece of gold. I will post a picture when it is clean.
I soaked it in baking soda and salt and hot water (https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/editor/dr/umo29sjtlcjg.jpg "")

The jeweler said it gold but he hadn't seen one like this.

Suppose to bring it in next Tuesday and will recheck since it's clean.
That looks like copper to me. Hmmm

Found that stuff in the back yard lol.
Good luck with your next check...Let us know what method is used....still looks like some residue attached. Cheers, RickO
Could it be an old gold filling? Always nice to find gold.

What did the detector meter say it was?
