Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Puddy is generally pink.
That is something else.
Be very suspicious.

What else could it be that would not be obvious at the time of slabbing?

Well I'm glad it's not your coin.
The substance being discussed is putty, not puddy. And it’s not necessarily pink. The reason to be suspicious is because there’s obviously something on the coin, not because there’s some possibility that it could be something other than putty.

Definitely looks as if there was an attempt to cover a surface issue.... and successful at time of encapsulation. Putty is a general term for several such materials (no idea how many). Cheers, RickO
This is the only one I'm almost sure is putty.

I kinda doubt yours is but there is something there to cause concern.
It was in a TPG holder at MS66

I once had this indian, and considered it puttied, but really no way to know I suppose.

Won't the TPG's buy back these types of things?
No. The guarantee now excludes contaminants not apparent at the time of grading. Which pretty much covers everything from putty to PVC to milk spots.
Lance.
It really is sad. Many forms of coin doctoring are exempted. Ditto for PVC. Anything more than two grades off is now considered a mechanical error. Copper color is no longer guaranteed. With the long list of exclusions, I think the relevant question becomes: What do the services cover anymore?
I was just about to ask the same question.
I'm with you. The guarantee is pretty much just authenticity nowadays. Grade too, largely. Unless it's a blatant mechanical error.
Lance.
Yes / coin is ruined.
Putty does not ruin coins. I’ve seen many pictures (and some coins) before and after it’s’ removal and the coins had no damage, whatsoever. In addition to that, in many cases, despite whatever flaws were exposed from the putty removal, the coin was still accurately graded at the assigned grade.

It sure looks like it to me.
Anytime I see that shade of pink, I go on full alert.
On the 07 saint, you can see 2 clumps of putty that weren't squished & broken up.
Look near the fold of her dress around the waist. (they are both triangular & kinda look like guitar picks)

If you have a blacklight available, try shining the blacklight on the coin to see if the area in question lights up differently than the rest of the coin. Report back or share pictures of the experiment!
