Redfield Morgan Dollar

Been looking for a Redfield Morgan and finding out probably be a black holder due to price. Had a WTB on the BST forum but no offers however many available on Ebay but prices are all over the place. I have seen some black holders with a NGC sticker on the back? Are they more sought after? Any knowledge or pitfalls I need to know when buying one?

Black holders are less desirable. Red are more desirable. Green are outright rare.
The NGC sticker just means NGC graded it.
Don't buy a cracked holder is the biggest piece of advice I can give you.

Thanks for that info
If your goal is just to have a Redfield then the color does not matter, if you are looking for value find a nice coin in a red holder which may take some looking.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Be sure the red Paramount holder says "Redfield" on it. If it doesn't say Redfield, it's just another silver dollar.

I have noticed that and thanks
Don’t know what your budget is, but APMEX has a red one for $250 right now. Good luck.

I knew about the red and black holders.... Have never seen a green one. What is the story on the green Redfield holders?? Cheers, RickO
Thanks for the info
This thread has inspired me to read the story behind Redfield - the man, not his coins. This book is on it's way to me:

You'll enjoy this interesting story, I have read it 2 or 3 times!
