Some members comment on almost every thread. When they stop commenting, many of us wonder if they're okay, succumbed to Coinora Virus, or maybe just dealing with life and need a break. Some are missed, some unnoticed. It's a courtesy thing.
When you leave work, do you just leave or say goodbye to co-workers or your boss?
Perhaps there should be a Goodbye Thread (pinned to the top) or a dedicated Goodbye Forum (maybe replacing the coin swaps forum).
That way, people can announce their comings and going to anyone who might be interested. There would be rules of course, like how long of an absence would qualify for an Official Goodbye? One week? One month? What type of absence (vacation, illness, wife sold my coin collection, etc.)?
Maybe even a specific forum for the “Mad Quitters” would be entertaining, too. Just thinking out loud here.

Robert, after reading that, I think it’s time you took a break.😉 And please feel free to let us know if you decide to do that.😄

This forum has had many people come and go over the years. Doesn't matter who you are. If you leave, you will be forgotten over time. Forum life will go on.
Some people like the following are the exceptions and are requested over and over again. All have been given multiple chances. We’re lucky to still have Mark with us.

I actually have already written my obituary and have instructed my Nephew with my password to come by here and post my final Goodbye post for me. I wish all members instructed next of kin so they just don't disappear......This place is a special place for most of us and the only way I am leaving is when I am six feet under.....Until than go Fast.......

Only done by someone who wants attention, and wants other members to say "please don't go".
Or someone who wants to let friends and acquaintances know, without having to send a large number of private messages.
When there is a drop down menu that suggests names as you type, how hard is it to send a PM (or few if there is a cap on recipients)? Most of us really aren't all that popular. I still believe there are elements of narcissism in >90% of goodbye posts. Interestingly most of these threads are created when an author doesn't get his way in another thread or something blows up spectacularly in the author's face.

I wasn’t even aware of the drop down menu you mentioned, Thanks.

Don’t sell yourself short. I would notice immediately! I use your website all the time and was just referring to it again yesterday.
Well, in that case I will say adieu to you now while you can still read it. Adieu !
Thank you. Very nice of you to say.

It saddens me to read posts by members who feel like strangers that wouldn't be missed..
Please know that your contributions are valuable and others would definitely notice your absence,
I've enjoyed reading almost every thread on the US coin forum for almost 18 years and counting.
I'd notice and miss you along with many others... unless of course you say you're going away mad.
In which case, buh bye fool.
