I read a blurb about a #1 Type Set from the S.S. Central America shipwreck. Does anyone know who has this set or what is in it?

Black Cat?
He owns the 1857-S Supernova.
The California Gold Marketing Group put together a set of coins recovered from the 2014 salvage efforts.
They deemed the set, the best of the best or something similar
The group of coins contained
1856-S $1 MS 65+ finest known
1857-S $2.50 MS 64+ tied for finest known
1857-S $3 MS 67 finest known
1857-S $5 MS 66 finest known
1857-S $10 MS 64+ tied for finest known
1857-S $20 MS 67+ finest known
I don’t know if it was ever up for sale
or if this is the type set you are referring to
@CaptainBlunt .... Wow... was that set displayed anywhere? Would love to see some pictures....Cheers, RickO
This sounds like it. Do you know if it was ever displayed? Would love to see it, even on a website.

i concede to having a fair amount of difficulty with the $2.5 57-S for a couple reasons.
can't find it in coinfacts. it is supposedly tied (technically by grade) at 64+ ??? no trueview found yet nor cert #.
fwiw, there is a 56-s (non ss central i presume) at ms65
here are the 2 64+ side-by-side. why the central coin didn't go higher than the other 64+ by comparison alone, i will never know. it seems there is something going on that is not apparent but i'm not going any further with it.
non-ss

Looks like he left it in the kitty litter.

One of the GREATEST gold coins in existence.

I wonder what they are asking for the set? If these really are all finest known or tied for finest known, I’m thinking about $1M.

if they are the finest known is not difficult to find out. what they are asking however. i did read on legend regarding the 57-s $2.5 64+ they had listed and made some brief commentary about the set and its asking price.

Found that Legend comment in a May 2019 auction, "...The other MS64+ is in the #1 Ship Wreck Type set that is being shopped around for insane money...".

Also noticed the asking price for the set in an ad appearing in the July 2020 Greysheet. The earlier post matches the coins shown in the ad.
A bit more than the $1 million estimated by savitale.
The asking price is $2,500,000. Order before midnight. Operators are standing by.

Amazing coins and amazing story. Apparently the sinking led to the financial panic of 1857 to boot?? Why did they ship all that gold in one batch on one ship? Hell there still could have been pirates floating around in those days!
