Is this coin worth being graded?

Hello. I'm new to coin collecting and know next to nothing about how grading works. I'm curious if people think the below coin is worth being graded, and if so, what grade it might receive. (The focus isn't the best on the reverse side)

Thanks in advance!

Not an expert, it looks real but I don’t know if it’s worth more than melt. I can tell you however that I think it’d get a details grade because the rim dings.

    AU50/53ish.
Surfaces look unnatural (perhaps cleaned...may just be the lighting.)
    Would it be worth it?
    Maybe for authentication purposes.
    That is up to you.
Welcome to the great world of coins by the way! :)

I'm also no expert but agree that it looks genuine to me. Since it is a well circulated common date it is probably just a melt value coin at this point. I wouldn't send it in to be slabbed.

If selling, some may like authentication, but it doesn't need to be in top tier plastic. I concur with the others.

That’s a beautiful coin! Getting that coin in a slab might give you the coin bug!

I would probably say no, because at current gold price, basically thats what the coin is worth

@Jebediah.... Welcome aboard... Nice gold coin, but the advice above is good... That being said, you could get it slabbed for authentication (helps if selling) or preservation (gold gets damaged easily). Cheers, RickO

As another collector who has never sent a coin in to be graded, I can advise you that it's not just as simple as "sending it in". For the top two grading companies (NGC and PCGS) you have to consider buying a membership with them or having it graded at a show or at a dealer who is a member. I'm sure others here can give you much better advice on how to actually go about that.

Yes I would send it in - would want know what they grade it, more marketable slabbed. EST MV definitely above my minimum $ threshold. It appears to be low pop coin and worth more than melt (CF).

Using the money it would cost to send it in to buy another coin might do more for getting the coin bug than just surrounding the coin he has in plastic.

If you like it, grade it.

Not exactly a "common date" and harder to find than one would think. If you ever decide to sell it I think it would bring more money if authenticated and in a slab. A nice coin for someone new to coin collecting.

Edited to add..... might even be a weak D, better pictures would help.

I would say that if you send in that one coin you will probably be 1. Poorer & 2. Disappointed with results but you will learn something.
Rim damage & surface color imo would probably turn out to a killer for that coin. It's expensive to send in gold & there is no upside with that coin.
Edit: 2 hours later...I was looking at the rims. It appears to me certain areas were smoothed out. From about the rim nicks clockwise until 3pm on the reverse there is some separation between the upset rim & the denticles. The whole left side on the reverse is smoothed. Someone worked on this coin.

    Have a nice day
