Welcome to the 1850 Club!
many thanks to ryk
@BloodMan I wish I could like that one more than once
Lot's of character on these so far. Love them.
Some crusty gold there guys.... very nice. Cheers, RickO
All good stuff
Bloodman and Steveben,
Both are amazing examples. I have seen your vf20 b4 and it never gets old...
Bloodman - that 50-O is crazy amazing! Love the crust. 🤭
Thanks so much for sharing those beautiful examples!
Anybody else out there with an 1850 $20 ?????
Bloodman... whats the grade and details on the beautiful 50-o by chance?
@steveben Thanks for your comments.
This 1850-O $20 is graded XF45 and represents what I consider a "perfect" circulated double eagle. It is difficult to find this issue properly graded with original surfaces. It is from the "Fairmont" collection, and as you might expect, I paid AU money to acquire it.
@BloodMan awesome! i got to like it twice, haha
This was always a favorite date of mine, and I once hoarded them, owning as many as 8 at one time. This is an XF 40 that I sold a while back.
The highest graded one I owned was an AU-50, the first coin I ever purchased purchased from Legend, in 2002.
I only own one now, the sister coin of the one I sold to @steveben , purchased from the same bay seller in 2013. Both of them were eventually CAC gold-stickered:
(apologies for crappy photos)
@Bloodman - wow... what a gorgeous '50-O!! Love it!
Whoops... wrong denom.
@CharlotteDude I'll allow it!
And here is a more recent photo of my 1850 DE:
For anyone interested in the subject of "proofs" relating to the 1850 Double Eagle here is a link to the thread that discusses one located in a Paris Museum as well as the backstory regarding my coin as above posted. The Paris specimen as photographed by the museum can be seen for comparison in John Dannreuther's recently published book, "United States Proof Coins". Volume IV Gold Part Two at page 864.

Alas, my birth year set (dated both 1850 and 1950) is in the Safety Deposit Box along with everything else. Got an 1850 $20, $10 and Gold Dollar. In the 1950 pile I have Peruvian, Chilean and Vatican gold.
Here is another 1850 $20 to add to this thread. This one is in an old style NGC holder.
Beautiful coins. Maybe someday....
While I’m super envious of the 1850 $20, which I hope to have soon, I hope you’ll
forgive me and post my 1850 California gold. Only one year made.
