What a huge dig discovery!!!
Wonderfully fascinating. Many of the dinars were cut into smaller pieces to "serve as change." There was even a similar fragment of a Byzantine solidus, to demonstrated the cross currents between the rivalrous empire and caliphate. And there's always and forever the compelling mystery of the person(s) who hid the trove, why they hid it, and why they never managed to retrieve it. Obviously, the guy never told his wife and kids, or they got caught up in the same cataclysm....
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
