Here are two

  • 1935 Old Spanish Trail Half Dollar - designed by coin dealer L.W. Hoffecker and later ANA President
  • 1938 New Rochelle 250th Anniversary half dollar - support of Congress attained by Westchester County Coin Club

Interesting. I would never have guessed that a local coin show could have successfully lobbied Congress to do anything. I wonder if there were others.

I believe several early proofs were created as a result of pressure from coin collectors or dealers. I know the mint used to trade Coins For ones they did not have in their cabinet.

Was Teddy Roosevelt a coin collector? He was responsible for the St. Gaudens gold coin designs. Cheers, RickO

No but his cousin FDR was a coin collector and also a stamp collector for which he is better known.

Restrikes of the 1804 dollar, restrikes of many 19th century proof coins, some might say the 1913 Liberty nickels.

    Isn't D. Carr a collector? Didn't he design a couple of quarters?

Tons of AT coins were created to fill the collector demand and influence of a need for color. :D

Yes, Zerbe comes to mind. Among other things, he was influential in getting Peace dollar started.

Also say what you want about Dan Carr, but his designs are on the New York and Rhode Island quarters. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples.

Edited, oh I see @keyman64 beat me to that one. :)
