Blown away by some of the auction results for tokens at Heritage last night

I didnt win anything last night at Heritage's auction of exonumia. Got blown away on the lots that interested me. Some of the prices realized have to be multiples of previous records. These two Civil War tokens in particular seemed to go to the moon during live bidding! I thought $750-1000 would buy them but...
Anyone win anything interesting?

Wow, that is a strong price!
Nothing for my hometown collection in the sale unfortunately.
PS when is your book on Merriam coming?

Holy cow! I mean, bull.
Hopefully next year. Ive been in the accumulation phase for a long time. Buying tokens, medals, associated material. (They are all so hard to come by, as you know!) Trying my best to research the merchants to make them come alive through Merriam's work. For some, there just isn't a lot out there.
I should have focused on this during the downtime caused by the pandemic, but it seems the more time I'm given, the less time I actually have!

I have never seen those tokens. Really nice.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
People have loads of time and are swimming in cash.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Auction fever certainly helps. Creates a sense of urgency that it is your one shot at something special.
If I listed the above two tokens on eBay at $1000 BIN, they would undoubtedly languish there for weeks.
Absolutely no offense to anyone who picked these up. I like them very much, but someone certainly paid dearly for them

I should also note that I never saw an example of the tiger in white metal before, so perhaps that drove the price north? But the bull still has me scratching my head

I’ve seen that happen with some coins that I follow. I could also list some items for a fraction of the auction price on eBay and see no interest. It’s one of the benefits that an auction can bring (even if it doesn’t make sense to many of us).
I agree with you. No restaurant family dining for 6 months. No family vacation this Summer. Only going to Home Depot when it is absolutely necessary......AND......biggest money saver of all?.....the Hydrant girls and their mothers had no way to justify that annual fake charade they refer to as "BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING." . ..WHEW!
I agree that the prices were very strong for the more unique items, even some of the more available patriotic cwt’s got strong money...
I was following about 20 tokens...1/2 of which I knew would be out of my price range such as the peacemaker/clr token...and the other 1/2 more common types like a millions for defense.
I Didn’t end up getting any, nor did I think there were many (if any) good values in the ones I followed.
I liked these Charles Lang storecards very much. They are so much harder to find than their rarity levels would suggest. And they never come this nice. Maybe I should've stretched for them, but they went for healthy bids:
$720
$900
I was the underbidder on both so who knows how badly the other guy wanted them, assuming the same bidder picked up the pair

It doesn't surprise me ... there are some serious token collectors out there that have the money to get what they want.
More power to them!!!
God bless them

Those are really nice Charles Lang tokens. It's nice to have condition rarities for these.
You're been doing well on your Box of 20. You have some great tokens in there.
Here's a So-Called Dollar (HK-19) I was following on Heritage recently. It's a PCGS MS63PL and sold for $930 which is about right for this piece. It was still much less than the 2015 Gardner $1,997.50 PCGS MS63 toned piece.

There is certainly some serious money in the token and medal market these days. The prices they are bringing are far higher than I would ever have dreamed of back when I was active.
One interesting think to think about is what can happen to prices after Covid.
Yes, I noticed that as well. I hope when I go to sell some items in the next few months I
get that type of love on my coins and tokens!

I have a little of both but still not enough of either.

I won a couple of minor tokens last night. I thought I bought them at a good price until I received my invoice and felt the sting of tax, S/H, and the 20% juice. Now I’m glad I didn’t buy more.

What did you win?
Exactly -- these two particular patriotic civil war tokens appear for sale once in a blue moon.
The Tiger and Bull pieces are the only graded pieces at NGC:
1863 Tiger - Fuld-71/182MP - NGC MS64 POP 0/1/0
1863 Bull - Fuld-71/183A - NGC MS64 POP 0/1/0
1863 Charles Lang Brass - NGC MS66 POP 5/1/0
1863 Charles Lang Copper - NGC MS65BN POP 20/3/2
Top pop for brown copper, but 2 higher at RB.
Just a couple of minor Hard Times Tokens. Bought them on a whim. I don’t have them in hand yet.
