PCNS medals - Inspired by Pan-Pac Slugs, Humbert Slugs, Lesher Dollars or all 3?

PCNS medals are different from that of many other clubs in that they are octagons instead of circles.
I used to think they were inspired by the Pan Pac slugs, which co-incided with the founding of PCNS. Recently got to wondering if they were also inspired by Lesher dollars and Humbert slugs, both of which Farran Zerbe, co-founder of PCNS, was involved with.
Anyone know the history of the PCNS medal?
Here's my 2015 medals:
Even when PCNS medals are round, they are octagonal! Love the toning on this one
Here's a Zerbe catalog from 1916.

@Zoins.... I cannot answer your question, however, I have one of my own.... Is that 'gold' color on the reverse part of the original coin, or has it been added? Cheers, RickO
@zoins I have been searching for both of those items. Do you own it or is it for sale somewhere?
Pm me if you know where I can get these.
I cant help with the history but I do believe you are definitely heading in the right direction.

I forgot if we discussed these before in PM so here's some info:
All of the medals are mine. The catalog photo is from an eBay sale.
The best place to get these is likely either eBay or from PCNS members, as these weren't sold to the public.
Information on the 2015 medals is available here:
By the way, you have a great collection of these PCNS medals!
Here are some photos of the "65TH YEAR 1980" counterstamped piece from BelleView coins. I've never seen one before!
Tho not an official item, this is far and away the best facsimile of the Pan Pac $50 slug I've seen.
I guess you’re right @Zoins so I went ahead and put a wanted on the bst.
Maybe someone will have a few that I need.

Resurrecting an old thread with a new find . . . .
This CSNA piece isn't mentioned in the excerpts above, probably because it's not an octagon, but it is a precursor to all of the octagon CSNA medals.
Minted shortly after the re-dedication of the Old San Francisco Mint in 1973, this medal commemorates the dedication of the San Francisco Mint Numismatic Museum at the mint.
I wonder if the report above has who struck these and the mintage numbers? I also wonder if these were sold, or more likely given out to those invited to the museum dedication? Does anyone know?

I happened across this one on the bay last week. A rare occasion where the "correct" medal is scarcer than the "error."
It should be here early this week.
