    Looks like cleaning with a camel's hair brush while the encrusted coins are in a proprietary ph neutral's (7 or so) solution is the "secret."

    Quite the process.... An amazing treasure indeed. I lived in the Caribbean for years, and always, when swimming or on the beaches, looked for gold coins.... Never found one... Cheers, RickO

    Sodium salts is a very broad category,.. can be neutral (pH 7), acidic (pH < 7) or basic (pH > 7)

    Funny, that is not quite what I would have said. Salts tend to be basic in their nature or neutral - sodium chloride in water by recall is 7.0.
