ANA Mail Call!

Some stuff showed up for me from the ANA today. As I was supposed to get my 25-year pin at the show and there was no show, they mailed that.
They also sent a thank you gift for giving the Morgan dollar webinar. As you recall, Dan "Tiny" Cross passed away earlier this year. Joe Paonessa, who teaches the Hobo nickel class and designs an annual summer seminar token, produced a run of "Tiny" nickels. They're overstruck on dateless buffalo nickels, so I guess they can officially still count as Hobo nickels? Anyway, I thought this was very cool and a fitting tribute token to Tiny.

That's a very cool 25 year pin. I have been a member of the ANA off and on several times. I join but after a couple of years I just cannot see the value of continuing membership. The ANS, however ... that's a different story. I see the value there.
Re the Hobo nickel: It's just a total shame that "Tiny" passed away. I recall seeing his pictures in the Numismatist and thought he was doing a nice thing with the YNs and Summer Seminars. It's a good looking nickel but I'm sad why it was struck...
Congratulations on 25 years.... Nice pin and a nice hobo nickel. Cheers, RickO
Congratulations! That's a wonderful accomplishment! I'm sure you'd rather be there in person if the world wasn't upside down right now--good wishes for next year!
He who knows he has enough is rich.
Unspoken heroes of the hobby like you , carry a wealth of information. Kudos.
25 years is a very long time. Congrats.
Good to see that they are still doing the medals. Information on whether they're still doing them has been a bit conflicted of late.
I should post a pic of mine, from 22 years ago

Congratulations on your 25 years! Have you any idea how many of the tribute "hobo" nickels were struck?
Awesome and congrats!
You mentioned the first one is a pin. Can you show a photo of the reverse? I'm familiar with the 25 year membership medals that have the person's name an ANA number engraved, but not the pin.
The Hobo token for Tiny is a great tribute. There are a lot of great responses on his obituary:
Regarding naming this, I've seen the "Hobo token" used for struck pieces that are not overstruck nickels and "Hobo nickels" used for carved pieces. This one is in between so I guess either could work.
Congratulations for sure. A very cool hobo nickel too👌
Several years ago I got my 25 year medal and it was made in sterling silver at that time. I never got a pin but I doubt that I would wear it.

I don't know. It specifically says "Numismatic Educator," so I imagine they didn't do many. I assume the obverse was the intended die for the pewter banquet tokens.
This is actually a lapel pin. There was also an engraved silver medal, about the size of a quarter.
Thank you.
