PayPal note from Malwarebytes

topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭

I subscribe to the full paid version of Malwarebytes.
Glad I do. They have sent me dozens of the scams they block on a regular basis. :)

Today's email from them included a PayPal note:

"PayPal will ALWAYS include your real name in their emails. ALWAYS! The scammers cannot do that as they do not know your name."

FWIW.

This is a coin forum. Not a forum about Malwarebytes.

PayPal, eBay or any similar place will always include your name in their email notices.

Thanks. I didn't know that. Like many others here, I use PayPal to buy coins so it's useful information.

Hmmm, Malwarebytes may have caused me to buy a new computer. I use AVG as my virus program. Turns out the 2 might have been fighting each other!

Turns out our local computer gurus were trying to sell me a computer. I bought a better 1 for 1/2 the price. But, I had a lot of data I needed to save. Long story short I got my computer back with the hard drive uninstalled. The mention of me putting it back in and playing with it was met with a stern don't do it if you want to save your files.

I did and started playing around with my computer in protected mode. Was finally able to email myself the spreadsheets to myself that would have been a disaster if I lost. Then finally was able to send my data to a remote backup(mainly many years of pictures). Then I uninstalled and reinstalled everything that did not come with the computer except malwarebytes(which my problems began shortly after I installed it). That was 2 years ago and my older better computer(I-7 vrs. I-5 with a ton more Ram) is still working like a champ!

Yeah, I do a better job of backing up these days!

At the risk of incurring GREAT WRATH ** ;) I'll go so far as to ALSO recommend ...CARBONITE....
It **BACKS UP EVERYTHING EVERY DAY!
    :)

And yes, I have needed it one time.
And it replaced all the data I lost ....completely. Exactly how it was.

Bleeve me, I've seen a LOT of computer stuff and dealt with some very troublesome stuff.

Malwarebytes even stopped that RANSOMWARE plague that hit almost everyone a year or so ago.

So..... I use both Malwarebytes AND Carbonite.

and have been trouble free for 3.5 years now.

    Okay...... flame away. :D

Why would I do that? My biggest beef is the computer guru either knowing or not knowing there was most likely a software conflict in my computer. That's my take on it anywho!

I blocked so many scams now I don’t get too many any more. One thing you always need to check is the sender address. That’s how you find out is scam. Some of them are very good.

Good information.... Many of us use Paypal, so it does relate to our hobby. We have a BST, a valuable resource, in which PP is used profusely. Cheers, RickO

  • Interesting to see a previous employed of mine mentioned here.
Solid consumer product, the free version will meet most needs. Unfortunately, they had some layoffs a cpl weeks back, and hopefully they can turn things around.

I'm glad to hear about it as well. I hope this social distancing doesn't cause to much anti socialism problems
