1885 O MORGAN DOLLAR STRUCK THROUGH WOOD?

Working through a stack of nice unc morgan dollars that have not seen the light of day for 50 years....looks to be sturck through wood on reverse? Thoughts?

Interesting... I agree with 'struck through'... and certainly may be wood...just cannot determine that from the pictures. Cheers, RickO
If it was struck through wood typically you should be able to see the grain of the wood if you look close.
Quite likely. They used sawdust to dry planchets in New Orleans before striking. 83-O, 84-O, and 85-O are often found with embedded sawdust on the coins. Usually they're tiny specks, but a large chunk would make an appearance now and then.

Not sure it was struck through wood... but does appear to be a strike through of some sort.
