Looks like an S mintmark. Could be a dropped letter. Can we assume this is an 1923-S?

Check to see if there is any raised metal around the letter. A dropped letter should be flush with the fields. There may be a raised area due to displaced metal if it was punched after it left the mint. Per the comment by @PerryHall if it's a dropped mm, it should be a 1923-S. If it's not and the "s" doesn't match the approx size and shape of any other letters on the coin, it was most likely added post minting.
The S appears to be incused into the surface. We need the OP to confirm that this coin has an S mintmark.

Looking at the picture magnified, the S looks incuse...If so, added after the mint....Let us know. Cheers, RickO

There does seem to be a slight circular depression around the 'S' which makes me think counter stamped also. What does the reverse look like?
