It's been a long time since I upgraded my Mercury dime set!

PTVETTERPTVETTER Posts: 5,958 ✭✭✭✭✭

So today I am upgrading not one but 2 dimes.
a 1942-S in MS67FB
and a 1945-S in MS67FB
will not do anything for the standings, but still nice coins
I can't get my ipad to login here??????
so no photo yet, maybe later!

    Huge Mercury Dime fan here!

Congrats!!! My question for you. Do you see a big noticeable difference in a MS 67 versus an MS 65? I’m going for this set and my highest graded ones are 65’s.

    Congrats again!

Hi Jeff, there is a big difference between 65s and 67s. For the common dates, it only makes sense to go after the nicer examples when the price difference can only be $100 to a couple hundred. That said, NOT all MS67s are created equal. I have seen MS68 examples with what I would call hatchet marks in them. Avoid distracting heavy hits, carbon spots and finger prints. I have seen OGH/Rattler examples in MS65 holders be cracked out and grade MS67+ but those older holders will typically go for a premium. For the modern holders, I can see big differences between 65s and 67s. Besides marks on the coin, luster normally takes a huge leap forward in the 67s. Best of luck!

Eye appeal is the main difference
That being said let you eye be your guide!
