Help with the date, what do you think?

Trying to figure the date on this penny, is it worth sending to be graded? New at this, Thanks!

1913 worth about 2 cents. Will cost $30 to have it graded.

First guess is 1913, looking at it on my phone. No need to grade. Just enjoy.

IMHO too badly damaged to be worth grading

Might be instructive to search eBay for 1913 cents, and see what they are selling for in much better condition than yours. Will quickly answer your grading question...

  • Thank you guys. The 3 on this coin does not look like the 3 on the 1913 penny.

If it were mine, I would either spend it or return it to the parking lot where it was found.

It certainly looks nothing like the 3 on a 1943, and that's all that matters, considering the condition of the coin.

  • Thank you Mark, condition is bad for sure. The bottom of the 3 would be the same as the bottom of the 9 but it was pushed upward. Thanks for input.

1913, 1923, and all of the cents from the 1930s had a short 3, unlike the 9 that you speak of. The long 3 didn't occur 1943.

Funny how if that was a V nickel it would be worth thousands of dollars.
