How is the 'Collector Coin' Market (non-bullion) doing? Any recent upticks?

Walkerguy21DWalkerguy21D Posts: 11,468 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just curious...I haven't been attending any shows, and other priorities recently have reduced my time spent on coins.

I've been seeing gold and silver coins on the BST selling pretty quickly, at prices far higher than less than a year ago.
Has any of this carried over to other coins - how have large cents, Indian cents, Buffalo nickels, etc have been doing?
Thanks in advance -

Well almost nobody is attending shows, however in general holders with beans are sky high, those without are suffering.

Edited to add: Gold over 2K and silver past $25 today.

As I said in another post, .....

"As soon as this national financial mismanagement ends (or even if it doesn't) people forget that coins are small and liquid.

Whatever pulls us out of the morass, there are still gonna be people with disposable income and still having interest in historical objects and even if it's antiquities of some sort, coins are still going to be the small portable items they have always been.
What can one collect that has stayed feasible over centuries? Coins that are visually interesting or scarce are just another form of art.

Okay, they cycle up and down. What doesn't?

Post other collectibles that you think might be better. Collecting stuff is a human trait and I don't see that evaporating to zip.
To be honest, I think ....dreck.....is done for. Good sign in my mind.

The folks who think NICE coins are dead are gonna get a surprise."

Overall, I'd say it's quite strong. People have more time to pursue hobbies and shop on the Internet. Dealers report difficulty keeping enough coins in stock, partly due to lack of shows, but also due to a lot of buying activity. Further, the price of gold/silver in a sustained uptrend is always beneficial to (non-bullion) coin prices due to a general prosperity effect in the collector community.

The Early Bird (EB) coins are flying off the shelf and all the coins on the CRO website indicate sold or hold. So that says something right there in a market that I'm in.

Quality easily finds buyers. Might be different for the run of the mill coins.

    Flat out kickin as.

I have never seen ebay prices across the board so strong, (has to be lack of shows)

Several years ago, i had to jump over to ebay to sell a majority of stuff that comes in, because customers in my area were cheap, and hesitant to pay anything for stuff, well over the years I got acustomed do doing just that, now the folks that come in the shop are in disbelief at prices realized for the stuff on ebay, and are upset they are not getting offered the stuff in shop any longer, too bad is all I sAY!

I though the HA Colonials auction went pretty good a few weeks ago... seemed like a lot of stuff was going well above cdn and on average near PCGS price guide.

Not much impulse buying going on at shows that's for sure. That has to have some effect.
