I bought the plastic. Another new purchase, NGC 2.0 Mercury Dime.

DelawareDoonsDelawareDoons Posts: 3,413 ✭✭✭✭✭

I saw an absolutely lovely Mercury dime in absolutely lovely plastic on eBay. I clicked the listing, recognized the sellers name from this forum. I reached out, and a generous deal was offered.

A week later I received it in the mail. I received my images of it earlier this week and wanted to share. I will let the prior owner out himself if he wants, otherwise I will let sleeping dogs lay. It actually has a bit more color in hand, I imagine it was a tough coin to image for a lot of reasons!

It is off to CAC soon, and then should reside in my collection until I die. This one will have to be pried from my cold, dead hands.

Not a coin I'd buy but the plastic is cool.

Beautiful coin and era for holder! Just purchased a similar deal. Not as good as yours though. A tad newer NGC holder than yours.and yes, a 1947s Merc. Your color bombards mine. Lol
    Congrats.

Wow...If old holders are adding that much premium, I should check my coin cabinets... :D Not really to sell, just know I may have one... ;) Cheers, RickO

Thanks all! The combination of color and plastic put me head over heels. :)

    They're out there . I sold 7 that i had . I still have a few left .

NGC White Holders have gotten expensive .

You used to be able to get a 2.0 for about $200+/- on BST and Ebay . The last few sales ( 2.0 ) have been for about $400+/- .
I stopped buying them at that price and sold some i had .

They have indeed. I only own two now, but I think given the general elusiveness of them and how many are in strong hands now, they will just keep getting scarcer and scarcer on the market, excepting times when several pop up at once from a collection sale.

Nice. I have several 2.0s and 2.1s, and the coins are also pretty crusty.

    My first thought was:

That's a nice looking coin, but where's the plastic??

    I love these holders! Congrats!

They are out there but the premiums have gotten too high imo so while I still look for them I doubt that I'll find one at a price I am comfortable with. I have one 2.1 holder in my collection of old holders, I only need a regency, an NGC black, and a 2.0 and I'd have at least one of every current or defunct major TPG holder. However the black and regency I'll never be able to afford.

Very nice piece. I owned around a dozen 2.0s but got rid of them at around $250-300. Can’t believe the prices are going up a good amount. Most decide to keep these holders in private collections so no surprise these are getting scarcer.

Always buying nice toned coins! Searching for a low grade 1873 Arrows DDO Dime and 1842-O Small Date Quarter.

I had hopes of filling an old NGC box of 2.0s and 2.1s. It doesnt look like its going to happen anytime soon! Nice addition to your collection!

Very nice Mercury...one of those coins you can get lost in. Great pick up!

Glad you like it - I bought it from Ron Cerna several years ago. :+1:

The white line running from the rim into Liberty's face is very distracting. Is it on the coin or is it a scratch in the plastic?

    I don't know.

I kind of don't like the coin.

No luster and in my opinion, artificially toned.

    But I'm probably wrong.

It's in the plastic and I see your point.

It is a toning streak. I bet another coin was sitting on top of it.

It has luster, the images just do not show it, it is definitely not AT. :)
