This popped up today while I was browsing Instagram. I don’t pretend to be an expert but all signs point to fake. Tried to clarify where the person found it or bought it but couldn’t get a straight answer. So I will leave this here to do your worst. The pics are a little blurry but this is an “s” mint coin as well.

Fake. That reverse looks super mushy.

Shouldn't it weight almost as much as two silver dollars?
No. He’s implying that the coin was doible struck almost 50% out of collar.
I’m assuming that that would almost certainly cut the coin in half. Maybe I’m wrong.
So 150% the weight of a single silver dollar?
Real error. Fake coin.
Not even a real error, intentionally made.

Counterfeit.

So 150% the weight of a single silver dollar?
the striking process doesn't do anything to affect the weight. a planchet goes into the press and gets struck twice. BTW, Chinese fake.
It's really doubling down when you counterfeit a key date and make it a massive error, too.
Fake!

You aren’t kidding?
Always wash your hands between making a fake coin and taking a picture of it...

I guess I was speaking about it’s state of being rather than the circumstances of its creation.
It would be fun to carry one of those in my pocket and show it off to kids at state fairs and such. Anyone know where to locate one?
Actually. Yes.

Cool! Minimum order though is ten coins. I wish I could purchase one made of real coin silver
Obvious fake....No doubt there will be those who pay for one....That is what keeps counterfeiters/hoaxers in business. Cheers, RickO
This thread needs no further comment, so I won't make one.
