now i think about it i'm a bit shocked i haven't heard about silvertowne's wheat cent purchase of i think it was 15,000,000 coins mentioned at least in a long time. i really don't recall the number exactly but i got to see the stack of mint bags where they were storing them and it was like 2-3 feet deep, 10 feet wide and probably 15-20 feet long. i got to see some of the key date rolls put together including many cwt and other numismatic items. pretty amazing what can come out of hoards.

i stumbled across the silver dollar book online that PCGS is kind enough to host and i came across some info i've probably only seen mentioned here 1 perhaps 2 times max.

1878 Hoard - hold onto your pants!!!!!!!

I remember being with my uncle in the 90s when he bought a couple of Redfield dollars. I thought They were pretty neat and that he might get one for me, too, but he dropped something a little cheaper on me (I don’t remember what, but it was free and probably represented one of the best coins in my collection as a teen).

The video fails to mention Scrooge McDuck's Money Bin Hoard. :)

I am surprised that the Economite Hoard was not mentioned. If only there had been a proper inventory of it taken at the time.

By comparison, the chesterb hoard has a whopping 329 circulated coins with face value of $110 (but a good portion have a green bean sticker)! Lol :D

No mention of the Continental Bank silver dollar hoard. How bout the New York city Subway hoard? Both of these more significant to collectors than the 15 million wheaties.

Redfield is indeed a hoard unless your idea of collecting is to shove your coins in a sack and throw them down a coal chute.

I have decided that I will leave a note in my will designating my coin collection as the 'RickO Hoard'. :D That way my wife can have it auctioned in a separate and spectacular offering... (instead of the mundane, piecemeal dispersal it truly warrants). :D;) Cheers, RickO

My wife has a special name for my collection. The first word is “colossal“. From there, the rest of the words have more of a negative connotation. ;)

i just wanted to contribute but didn't want to say, lets check the archives for several of the previous threads on this topic with a lot of the same responses. :pensive:

its neat being around that many bags of coins as it makes me think of taking a dive in and going swimming.

being around a bunch of ballistic bags is humbling as well.
