8 years in an album. D. Carr bust half

Just for fun, and as an experiment, I stored my Daniel Carr 1816 overstruck half dollar in an old Wayte Raymond album.

Eight years later not a lot changed (a dry CA climate). Interesting to see ghosts of the original coin appear in the reverse legend.

I'll let it go another eight years and post an update then. Check back later.
Lance.

    That looks awesome @lkeigwin!

It's great to see these coins age over time and be a part of that.

Some Gallery Mint pieces are nearly 30 years old now.

Looks like it's on it's way to some excellent color. Gotta be patient, tho.

Nice to see the toning reveal the molecular compression of the original design. Peace Roy

Interesting experiment.....And stored properly in a dry climate is a good indication of natural tarnish. Progression of tarnish, as we know, can depend heavily on environmental influences - either natural or unnatural. I will be looking forward to year sixteen.... ;) He says with great confidence.... :D Cheers, RickO

That's cool. Maybe in 8 more years, you'll start to see some legitimate color.

    Very cool Lance!
Do you have an edge shot? Curious about the original lettering...

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a reflector from an old flashlight (working on it). So these images will have to do for now.

You could have wrapped that coin in yellow toilet paper and gotten the same effect in about 30-90 days sitting on a window sell exposed to sun light. Within 6-9 months the colorful colors start showing up.

Interesting. I'll hold my breath for the 16 year update. :)
